This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Acts as a messenger and ambassador of faith, mission, and purpose.
• Engages with companies, their workforce, and the community in a manner that reflects strong character through personal and spiritual practices.
• Conducts regular brief visits to company worksites (typically on a weekly basis) to connect with employees, fostering a relationship of trust and friendship inspired by the Chaplain’s profound Christian faith.
• Visits employees or their immediate family members wherever care is needed, including hospitals, nursing homes, funeral homes, residences, or other locations.
• May offer confidential pastoral discussions regarding various personal issues faced by employees and their immediate family members, such as family matters, divorce, serious illness, elder care, grief recovery, parenting, financial difficulties, budgeting, and other life challenges linked to financial stress. Additionally, provides referral services and coordinates specialized assistance for employees and/or their immediate family members with specific needs.
• May assist in the planning and conduct of funerals for employees or their immediate family members, including follow-up support and encouragement during the grief process.
• May visit employees and their immediate family members in jail.
• Collaborates with companies to notify families and other employees about deaths and serious injuries, offering support to those affected by various tragedies.
• May provide post-termination support for laid-off or terminated employees to facilitate a smooth transition to new employment.
• May facilitate, but not lead, spiritual enrichment activities, as employee-led initiatives tend to be more impactful than those led by a chaplain.
• Provides literature and other resources to assist company employees with life-related issues, as appropriate or requested.
• Represents companies to clients/customers in contexts where ministry services are applicable (e.g., serious illnesses, accidents, traumatic events, and funerals).
• Engages in new employee orientation to explain the Employee Care Service and the role of the Chaplain Team.
• With permission from the Executive Director of Operations (EDO), proactively responds to additional duties and services requested by company executive leadership, within the framework of the Letter of Agreement between MCHAP Chaplains and the organization.
• Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team and in an interfaith environment. Possesses the capacity to respect diverse lifestyles, cultures, beliefs, and values.
• Effective listening and interaction skills with clients, employees, and their families. Proficient in delivering community presentations and handling family members and staff under pressure. Holds a strong regard for the dignity and worth of clients, employees, and their families. Capable of managing stressful situations and documenting accurately according to established standards.
• Demonstrates spiritual maturity and a commitment to a Christian lifestyle aligned with MCHAP’s Ministry values. Integrates Christian principles and beliefs into daily activities and job performance. Possesses a fundamental understanding of the Holy Bible and its proper application. Affirms a saving faith in Jesus Christ and actively participates in a biblically based church.
• Proven ability to interact professionally with diplomacy, patience, and courtesy among diverse groups; capable of establishing and maintaining effective and collaborative working relationships while delivering exceptional customer service. Able to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential matters.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively engage with leadership, colleagues, employees, and families. Maintains emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stresses.
• Demonstrated skill in analyzing information to identify and address problems or objectives. Capable of identifying solutions and resolving issues. Proficient in interpreting policies and procedures relevant to the position and keeping others informed.
• Demonstrated proficiency in using Google Suites, Microsoft Office, or similar software, as well as internet, email messaging, and web-based applications. Ability to comprehend and learn new technology platforms.
• Must possess a valid state driver’s license and meet state minimum auto insurance requirements (in the states where services are provided).
• Must successfully complete a pre-employment background check.
