• The Strategic Category Director is tasked with defining and implementing global category strategies across designated spend categories to bolster Catalent’s Biologics operations, including Cell and Gene Therapies as well as Drug Substance Manufacturing.
• This position is responsible for the development of category strategies, management of supplier relationships for both strategic and critical suppliers, risk mitigation, and value generation across the organization.
• The role collaborates closely with Site Procurement Leaders, the Global Procurement Organization (GPO), Operations, Quality, MS&T, Finance, and Business Unit Leadership to guarantee supply assurance, competitiveness, and alignment with corporate goals.
• Take ownership of and create global category strategies that align with business growth, risk, and cost objectives.
• Serve as the enterprise category authority, guiding site-level execution.
• Lead strategic sourcing initiatives, supplier segmentation, and long-term category planning.
• Manage Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) for strategic and critical suppliers, including governance, performance oversight, and executive engagement.
• Conduct complex, high-stakes negotiations encompassing commercial, contractual, and risk considerations.
• Propel supplier innovation, capacity assurance, and collaborative value creation initiatives.
• Perform enterprise-wide supply risk evaluations and formulate mitigation strategies.
• Collaborate with Quality, Operations, and MS&T to facilitate dual sourcing and qualification strategies.
• Develop and implement savings, cost avoidance, cash flow, and productivity initiatives.
• Optimize total cost of ownership through consolidation, standardization, and leveraging volume.
• Work with Finance on Purchase Price Variance (PPV), inflation management, and budget fulfillment.
• Ensure that global category strategies are aligned with site execution.
• Collaborate with GPO leaders to implement category management tools and best practices.
• Provide consistent executive updates regarding category performance, risks, and value delivery.
• Regularly report on spend, savings, and value.
• Contribute to annual sourcing plans that align with the financial objectives of Biologics.
• Ensure that category savings, cost avoidance, and inflation targets are achieved.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree is preferred.
• Over 10 years of progressive procurement experience in biopharma, pharmaceuticals, or medical devices.
• Proven experience in leading global category strategies and SRM programs.
• Extensive knowledge in category management, strategic sourcing, and supplier risk management.
• Strong skills in negotiation, financial analysis, and commercial acumen.
• Ability to function effectively within a global, matrixed organization.
• Demonstrated leadership, influence, and stakeholder management capabilities.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Experience with single-use equipment, chromatography media, buffer production, and other biologics categories is an advantage.
