California Legislative Correspondent 2

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Write and report news articles and breaking news alerts, often under tight deadlines.

• Cover news events live and on-site at courthouses, state legislatures, and other key locations within your assigned region.

• Propose, develop, and write analytical pieces and feature stories on complex topics such as tax and legal developments, making them understandable for readers.

• Exhibit knowledge of federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial processes.

• Build strategic relationships with sources, editors, the news desk, and others.

• Act as a resource for fellow correspondents and reporters based in Washington.

• Participate in special projects and carry out additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with coursework in English or journalism is preferred.

• 8-12 years of journalism experience, including at least one year reporting on the subject areas relevant to assigned publications.

• Proven understanding of journalism principles and techniques.

• Familiarity with federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial processes.

• Capability to cover events live as they unfold and meet with sources in person at the covered location.
