This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
β’ Write and report news articles and breaking news alerts, often under tight deadlines.
β’ Cover news events live and on-site at courthouses, state legislatures, and other key locations within your assigned region.
β’ Propose, develop, and write analytical pieces and feature stories on complex topics such as tax and legal developments, making them understandable for readers.
β’ Exhibit knowledge of federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial processes.
β’ Build strategic relationships with sources, editors, the news desk, and others.
β’ Act as a resource for fellow correspondents and reporters based in Washington.
β’ Participate in special projects and carry out additional duties as assigned.
β’ Bachelorβs degree with coursework in English or journalism is preferred.
β’ 8-12 years of journalism experience, including at least one year reporting on the subject areas relevant to assigned publications.
β’ Proven understanding of journalism principles and techniques.
β’ Familiarity with federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial processes.
β’ Capability to cover events live as they unfold and meet with sources in person at the covered location.
