This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Prepare and update bridge and structural plans, elevations, sections, details, and schedules for preliminary design, PS&E, and construction support.
• Detail structural steel, reinforced and prestressed concrete, foundations, bearings, joints, barriers, and retaining structures under the guidance of engineers.
• Develop sheet sets using roadway alignments, profiles, survey and utility base files, geotechnical data, engineer markups, and discipline models.
• Coordinate interactions with roadway, drainage, utilities, traffic, geotechnical, and right-of-way teams.
• Implement client and agency CADD standards, including Caltrans standards when applicable, for file organization, references, levels/layers, annotation, sheet layout, naming, and deliverables.
• Review drawings for completeness, consistency, dimensions, references, and constructability.
• Integrate review comments and assist with quantity takeoffs and plan revisions.
• Create or assist in developing 3D bridge and structural models when project delivery requires them.
• Aid in generating model-based views, sections, quantities, and presentation graphics.
• Maintain organized project files and synchronize drawing production, milestones, and quality reviews with engineers and other CADD personnel.
• Provide support to less experienced drafters as needed.
• Associate of Science degree or higher in drafting, CADD, civil engineering technology, or a closely related technical discipline.
• Over 5 years of professional CADD experience, including significant production of bridge or other transportation structural plans.
• Proven expertise in both Bentley MicroStation and Autodesk AutoCAD; experience in transportation design environments such as OpenRoads Designer and/or Civil 3D.
• Familiarity with bridge plan conventions and detailing of steel and concrete structures; ability to interpret engineering sketches, roadway geometry, survey data, and technical review feedback.
• Experience in producing coordinated plan sets that meet client or public agency standards, with a strong focus on drawing quality and deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate closely with licensed engineers and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Preferred: Direct experience with Caltrans bridge or highway structure plan production, relevant Caltrans CADD standards, standard plans and details, and PS&E delivery; experience with California cities or counties.
• Preferred: Proficiency in Bentley OpenBridge Modeler / OpenBridge Designer, Autodesk Revit, and/or other bridge information modeling workflows, including model-to-sheet production and multidisciplinary model coordination.
• Preferred: Ability to create 3D renderings, visualizations, or animations.
• Preferred: Experience with ProjectWise, Autodesk Construction Cloud/BIM 360, Bluebeam Revu, and structured quality control processes.
• Must be able to regularly communicate verbally, listen, and operate a computer, keyboard, and mouse; occasionally lift, pull/push, and carry up to 20 pounds with accommodations.
• Willingness and ability to travel to other BKF locations and client sites may be necessary.
