This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Enhance the U.S. footprint and customer base of a worldwide medical communications and life sciences agency.
• Create and implement business development strategies to attract pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients.
• Identify target companies and key decision-makers within potential client organizations.
• Cultivate relationships with Heads, Vice Presidents, Directors, and other senior stakeholders in Medical Affairs and Medical Information.
• Generate and nurture qualified new business opportunities, especially with emerging and smaller pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms.
• Execute targeted outreach and establish senior-level client connections.
• Utilize industry relationships and networks to uncover opportunities.
• Conduct research on target accounts, therapeutic areas, company objectives, and potential business needs.
• Lead the business development process from prospecting and qualification to exploratory meetings, proposals, negotiations, and closing.
• Comprehend client medical, scientific, and communications requirements and identify opportunities for agency services.
• Position the agency as a strategic partner.
• Formulate account engagement strategies for sustained client relationships.
• Maintain an accurate and qualified business development pipeline.
• Represent the agency at pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical communications, scientific, and industry conferences and events.
• Foster relationships through virtual engagement and in-person interactions.
• Collaborate with scientific, medical, and operational teams to grasp client needs and develop solutions.
• Monitor industry and therapeutic-area trends to spot emerging business opportunities.
• Contribute to the continuous growth and expansion of the organization's presence in the U.S. market.
• Travel to meet prospective and existing clients and attend relevant conferences, networking events, scientific meetings, and industry gatherings.
• Over 5 years of professional experience in business development, client acquisition, or commercial growth within a medical communications, healthcare communications, life sciences, or similar agency setting.
• Proven track record of developing new business with pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology companies.
• Demonstrated success in personally managing the B2B business development cycle from prospecting to closing.
• Experience in directly engaging senior stakeholders in Medical Affairs and/or Medical Information, ideally including Heads, Vice Presidents, or Directors.
• Strong understanding of how pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies engage external agency partners.
• Experience in selling or positioning professional services, medical communications, scientific communications, medical affairs, medical information, or related solutions.
• Experience in identifying and cultivating relationships with new pharmaceutical and biotech accounts.
• Strong consultative selling and value-based communication abilities.
• Established network within the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry is highly desirable.
• Confidence in communicating with senior-level stakeholders and decision-makers.
• Excellent presentation, negotiation, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to comprehend complex scientific and medical services and articulate their value to prospective clients.
• Experience representing an organization at industry conferences, congresses, networking events, and scientific meetings.
• Proactive, commercially minded, and self-directed approach.
• Strong organizational skills and consistent follow-through.
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting while effectively collaborating with a global team.
• Willingness and capability to travel within California and other parts of the U.S. as needed.
