Breeding Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Play an active role in the design, planning, and implementation of breeding programs and research goals.

• Develop innovative approaches and tailored solutions to address challenges in aquaculture breeding programs.

• Ensure the confidentiality of breeding clients’ program information.

• Organize data and information, including entering data into a database.

• Foster effective communication with clients and CAT teams.

• Collaborate efficiently with various groups within CAT to achieve breeding program objectives.

• Analyze genetic and genomic data and information.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Genetics, Applied Breeding, or a related field.

• Proven experience in applied breeding and genetic enhancement.

• A flexible and open-minded attitude towards problem-solving.

• Strong communication skills, both written and spoken.

• High organizational skills with the capability to accurately document plans and actions.

• Ability to manage data from various sources and conduct basic analyses.

• Valid passport and willingness to travel.

• Experience in the Aquaculture sector or related applications of genetic improvement (Desirable).

• Familiarity with handling high-dimensional genomic datasets (SNP or NGS data) and associated analytical software (Desirable).

• Knowledge or experience with genomic selection and various genomic prediction models (Desirable).

• Proficiency in R or Python, or a demonstrated ability to learn programming languages with ease (Desirable).

• Understanding of population genetics (Desirable).
