Board-Certified Veterinary Nutritionist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Assess and authorize recipes to guarantee they are nutritionally sound, safe, and effective.

• Ensure all products conform to Open Farm’s recipe standards and ingredient quality criteria.

• Offer expertise on pet food formulation for dry, wet, treat, and canned products.

• Maintain accurate documentation and records regarding nutritional adequacy, feeding guidelines, and label compliance.

• Assist with advanced pet parent inquiries that require veterinary knowledge.

• Collaborate with our Pet Parent Experience (PPX) team to ensure product suggestions are based on veterinary expertise.

• Work alongside marketing and sales teams to educate consumers on pet nutrition.

• Support advertising and promotional claims with credible nutritional evidence.

• Partner with FSQA, Legal, and Regulatory teams to fulfill labeling and regulatory obligations.

• Ensure adherence to AAFCO, USDA, FDA, and FSMA standards.

• Collaborate with Purchasing and QA teams to guarantee ingredient nutritional quality.

• Help uphold high safety and quality standards across all pet food products.

• Develop a long-term strategy for how Open Farm can conduct and support pet nutrition research that aligns with our business and innovation goals, ultimately enhancing the brand.

⛳️ Requirements

• DVM and Board Certification from ACVN (American College of Veterinary Nutrition) or ECVCN (European College of Veterinary and Comparative Nutrition).

• In-depth knowledge of dog and cat nutrition and associated sciences.

• Preferred experience in pet food recipe development (dry, wet, treats, canned).

• Familiarity with dry food manufacturing processes and operations is an advantage.

• Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.

• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills for both technical and consumer-oriented content.

• Passionate about educating and training pet parents on all aspects of pet nutrition.
