Backend Infrastructure Engineer – Control Plane, Rust

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Control plane engineering: Take ownership of and enhance the control-plane services that manage pipelines across various customer environments.

• Kubernetes platform: Advance the Kubernetes infrastructure that ensures the reliable operation of Feldera pipelines, including resource management and self-hosted deployment processes.

• Enterprise readiness: Develop and strengthen features to meet the security, isolation, and access-control requirements of large enterprises.

• Cloud & self-hosted deployment: Create the capabilities that enable customers to deploy Feldera across various environments, from single-node laptops to multi-node clusters on their own infrastructure.

• API design: Craft clean, stable, and well-documented APIs for the control plane that internal teams and customers can utilize to build workflows.

• Reliability & operability: Ensure that the control plane is observable, debuggable, and resilient at scale.

• Troubleshooting: Resolve complex issues in distributed systems within the control plane and Kubernetes layer.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong expertise in Rust or significant systems programming experience in a similar language (C++, Go) with a proven ability to quickly learn Rust.

• Experience in building backend services, APIs, and production-level distributed systems.

• Practical experience with Kubernetes, including building on top of it, writing controllers/operators, or designing services that operate reliably within it.

• Knowledge of authentication, SSO, multi-tenancy, compliance standards (e.g., FIPS), and the security implications related to enterprise/self-hosted software.

• Strong Linux fundamentals and comfort with operating in containerized environments (Docker).

• Excellent troubleshooting abilities and the capacity to debug intricate distributed-systems issues.

• Self-motivated with outstanding communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a remote team environment.
