Backend Engineer, Ruby

📋 Description

• Become a part of a cross-functional team dedicated to creating and maintaining high-scale, customer-facing services.

• Engage in the design and implementation of new product features alongside product, design, and engineering teams.

• Assess feasibility options and influence engineering decisions focused on customer needs.

• Participate in discussions about system architecture and the evolution of technical design.

• Utilize OOP, SOLID principles, and clean coding practices to develop maintainable Ruby services.

• Define engineering patterns, standards, and enhancements for long-term architectural improvements.

• Ensure the support of highly available, resilient, and scalable systems.

• Write high-quality, readable, and maintainable Ruby code.

• Employ RSpec or Minitest to guarantee comprehensive test coverage.

• Enhance existing systems for improved reliability, modularity, and testability.

• Manage services that operate under significant scale and traffic.

• Monitor, troubleshoot, and bolster system resilience.

• Contribute to observability, operational readiness, and improvements in production systems.

• Take part in deployments and incident support as part of shared operational responsibilities.

• Communicate effectively and responsibly within the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive hands-on experience with Ruby for developing production applications.

• Capability to produce maintainable, well-organized code in alignment with OOP and SOLID principles.

• Proficient in automated testing with RSpec or Minitest.

• Experience with Git and collaborative development practices.

• Background in building scalable, API-driven backend services.

• Knowledge of concurrency, asynchronous processing, and interactions within distributed systems.

• Familiarity with PostgreSQL, Redis, and MongoDB for data persistence and caching solutions.

• Ability to design and troubleshoot systems under heavy load and high availability conditions.

• Understanding of performance bottlenecks and skills in implementing optimizations.

• Strong grasp of observability principles, including monitoring, logging, and system health analysis.

• Experience in supporting and iterating on production systems.

• Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Ability to positively contribute to team collaboration, solution discussions, and knowledge sharing.

• This position is open to candidates based in Portugal or Brazil only.
