Backend Engineer – HealthTech

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico, +5 more countries.

📋 Description

• Create, develop, and manage RESTful APIs utilizing Node.js, TypeScript, and Fastify.

• Collaborate with the frontend engineer to define API contracts and data structures prior to implementation.

• Implement authentication and authorization mechanisms using AWS Cognito or a similar solution.

• Construct secure and dependable backend services capable of handling large-scale data requests.

• Develop robust and recoverable pipelines for handling large and inconsistent genomic data inputs.

• Write logic for parsing and transforming outputs from third-party vendors.

• Strengthen pipelines to resist failures and enhance performance as data volumes increase.

• Design PostgreSQL schemas and data models tailored for genomic and health data.

• Architect AWS infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code practices, including CDK or CloudFormation.

• Establish secure storage solutions for sensitive healthcare information.

• Work in tandem with the frontend engineer to streamline deployment workflows.

• Implement role-based access controls and encryption for sensitive health data.

• Incorporate healthcare security and compliance standards into architectural decisions.

• Collaborate directly with the frontend lead and company leadership as the second technical hire.

• Begin as a contract engagement through Pearl, transitioning to full-time employment as the company solidifies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of backend engineering experience, including developing backend systems from the ground up at an early-stage startup.

• Proven experience with Node.js and TypeScript in building RESTful APIs.

• Experience in creating data pipelines that handle large, inconsistent data inputs with a focus on reproducibility and failure recovery.

• Proficiency in PostgreSQL schema design and data modeling.

• Experience with AWS deployment and infrastructure management.

• Knowledge of implementing authentication and authorization systems using AWS Cognito, Auth0, or OAuth.

• Proficient in English at a C1+ CEFR level for daily interactions with the frontend lead and company leadership.

• Experience in bioinformatics or genomic data processing is a plus.

• Familiarity with AWS CDK or CloudFormation for infrastructure-as-code is a plus.

• Experience with the Fastify framework is a plus.

• Background in healthcare or regulated industries is a plus.

• Familiarity with full-stack development using Next.js is a plus.
