Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and sustain backend services and internal APIs utilizing Python.

• Manage and troubleshoot Linux-based production systems, focusing on performance optimization and root-cause analysis.

• Create, enhance, and oversee MySQL queries and schemas for high-traffic, production-level data.

• Implement AI in development, debugging, testing, and navigating unfamiliar code workflows; assess generated outputs for provenance and licensing.

• Deliver dependable, thoroughly tested features in collaboration with senior engineers and cross-functional teams.

• Engage with both legacy and contemporary codebases, including components based on Perl, to support gradual modernization.

• Participate in technical design discussions and contribute to the modernization of legacy systems.

• Take ownership of production troubleshooting and engage in an on-call rotation as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• 3-5 years of experience in backend development.

• Proficient understanding of Python and Linux systems administration.

• Extensive experience with MySQL, including query writing, schema design, and performance diagnostics.

• Experience with AI-enhanced delivery throughout the development lifecycle, including knowledge of model suitability, AI-generated code failure modes, customer-data prompt boundaries, and security/compliance review processes.

• Background in a collaborative, Agile development setting with adherence to sprint and release protocols.

• Proven troubleshooting abilities and a sense of ownership regarding production challenges under pressure, including serving as a front-line responder.

• Familiarity with Perl is advantageous but not mandatory.

• Understanding of cPanel is a plus but not essential.
