Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, enhance, and manage backend services that drive LaunchDarkly’s Flag Delivery systems.

• Contribute to the infrastructure that supports both streaming and polling delivery models for LaunchDarkly SDKs.

• Troubleshoot production issues, enhance service reliability, and assist the team in upholding high standards concerning latency, availability, observability, and operability.

• Work with technologies and methodologies common in contemporary distributed backend systems, such as caching layers, network services, concurrency, failure management, and cloud infrastructure.

• Collaborate closely with partner teams, including SDK, Platform, SRE, Security, and Enterprise, to implement enhancements across the wider platform.

• Engage in the on-call rotation and take responsibility for the systems you contribute to.

• Gain a deep understanding of the existing architecture and make practical improvements that enhance system clarity, performance, and maintainability.

• Integrate AI into your engineering workflow with sound judgment, including knowing when to apply it, how to guide its use effectively, and how to assess or dismiss its output.

• Think critically about code, architecture, and overall system behavior, even when AI is involved.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in backend software engineering.

• Proven experience in building or managing production backend systems.

• Proficient programming skills in Go, Java, Rust, or a comparable backend language.

• Demonstrated existing use of AI in engineering projects.

• Capability to utilize AI while maintaining technical judgment.

• Understanding of distributed systems fundamentals such as caching, concurrency, failure modes, and reliability.

• Experience in troubleshooting production issues and leveraging observability tools to analyze system behavior.

• Ability to think clearly about code, architecture, and system operations.

• Strong inclination towards learning and comfort in collaborating with senior engineers.

• Excellent collaboration and communication abilities, with the capacity to work effectively across engineering teams.

• Openness to participating in on-call duties and providing production support.
