Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services as well as internal APIs using Python.

• Take ownership of the features that are deployed.

• Manage and troubleshoot production systems based on Linux.

• Conduct performance tuning and root-cause analysis.

• Write, optimize, and maintain MySQL queries and schemas for high-traffic, production-scale data.

• Leverage AI throughout the development, debugging, testing, and unfamiliar code workflows, ensuring generated output is reviewed prior to release.

• Collaborate with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, thoroughly tested features.

• Work with both legacy and modern codebases, including components written in Perl.

• Play a role in the gradual modernization of legacy systems.

• Provide insights on technical design choices.

• Manage production troubleshooting and engage in on-call rotations as required.

• Acquire and implement incident response practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• 3-5 years of experience in backend development.

• Strong proficiency in Python and Linux systems administration.

• Extensive experience with MySQL, including query writing, schema design, and performance diagnostics.

• Experience with AI-augmented delivery throughout the development lifecycle, covering development, debugging, testing, and unfamiliar code.

• Ability to discern appropriate AI models for various problems and recognize situations where they should not be employed.

• Capability to review AI-generated code, understand its potential failure points, and adhere to customer data, security, compliance, provenance, and licensing standards.

• Experience in a collaborative Agile development environment, demonstrating sprint and release discipline.

• Proven troubleshooting skills and accountability for production issues under pressure, including frontline response experience.

• Familiarity with Perl and cPanel environments is advantageous but not mandatory.
