This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Create robust systems by designing and implementing Java services, Temporal workflows, and Kafka-driven event pipelines, assisting clients in effectively adopting durable execution and event streaming from initial workflows to production scale.
• Spearhead modernization initiatives by planning and carrying out extensive modernization projects, transitioning workflows, services, and data across platforms, clusters, and clouds, with a focus on safety, observability, and minimal disruption as key priorities.
• Take ownership of the platform by developing and managing Kubernetes-native infrastructure and CI/CD on AWS, enabling application teams to deploy swiftly and securely.
• Incorporate reliability, observability, and repeatability into the deliverables, considering them essential rather than an afterthought.
• Collaborate with clients to create outcome-oriented applications and platforms, guiding them through the process, pinpointing potential issues and uncertainties, and addressing challenges.
• Travel for an average of 3–5 days each quarter, while the majority of work is conducted remotely.
• Educate and discuss opportunities for training, planning, and organizing meetups or local groups, while also creating various types of content in your area of expertise.
• Proven experience in building and managing applications at the enterprise level.
• Strong proficiency in Java and the JVM ecosystem (Spring Boot or similar).
• Familiarity with additional backend languages (Go, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, C#, etc.) is an advantage.
• Practical experience with a durable execution/workflow engine — with a preference for Temporal (Apache Airflow, Prefect, or similar are also relevant).
• Experience in designing and operating Kafka-based event streaming systems, including topic and partition design, consumer groups, and schema management.
• Background in designing and building GraphQL APIs, including schema design, resolvers, and performance considerations (N+1, caching, pagination).
• Extensive hands-on experience with AWS: architecting, deploying, and operating production systems (EKS, networking, IAM, messaging, and data services).
• Solid experience with Kubernetes: deploying, managing, and troubleshooting production workloads.
• A systems engineering perspective: understanding complex scaling challenges, concurrency, backpressure, caching strategies, and failure modes in distributed systems.
• Proven experience in planning and implementing migrations, including application replatforming, workflow engine migrations, and data/schema migrations.
• Comprehensive knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and GitOps-style delivery.
• Practical experience with observability practices, including logging, metrics, and tracing (OpenTelemetry is a plus).
• Experience in developing modern microservice-based or serverless applications.
• Expertise in database schema design and development.
• Competitive salary along with an annual bonus opportunity.
• Fully remote work with flexible working hours.
• 401(k) matching program.
• Four weeks of paid time off in addition to eight paid holidays.
• Health, dental, and vision insurance options.
• Paid maternity and paternity leave.
• Coverage for short-term disability (STD), long-term disability (LTD), and life insurance.
