Backend Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Develop backend services and APIs for functions including onboarding, accounts, payments, cards, transfers, rewards, travel, FX, KYC, and risk management workflows.

• Create dependable systems capable of supporting actual customer transactions, operational processes, and future financial offerings.

• Collaborate with internal systems, financial partners, payment providers, AI services, and external platforms.

• Take responsibility for backend quality across areas such as reliability, security, latency, observability, data integrity, and incident response.

• Partner with product, frontend, mobile, and AI teams to swiftly and safely launch features.

• Enhance existing systems by streamlining processes, eliminating manual tasks, and automating repetitive operations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive backend engineering experience in live production systems.

• Strong grasp of APIs, databases, authentication, authorization, queues, jobs, events, and integrations.

• Proven experience in building services that are utilized by actual customers or internal operations at significant scale.

• A solid debugging, reliability, security, and data quality mindset.

• Capable of making practical trade-offs between speed, accuracy, scalability, and maintainability.

• Experience in fintech, payments, banking, wallets, KYC, fraud, or risk management is a significant advantage, but not mandatory if core skills are strong.
