Auxiliary Communications Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +5 more states.

📋 Description

• Implement and manage emergency communication systems (VHF/UHF/HF voice and digital modes) to support incident operations.

• Ensure the readiness of personal and assigned communication equipment, including go-kits.

• Assist in the development and execution of incident communication plans (ICS-205).

• Verify that all communication activities adhere to FCC regulations, AUXCOMM standards, and best practices for interoperability.

• Engage in training, drills, and exercises to maintain operational readiness.

• Effectively coordinate and communicate with Incident Command, EOCs, and partner agencies.

• Keep current AUXCOMM qualification status and maintain good standing with AUXCOMM USA.

• Aid in testing and preserving National EMR’s AUXCOMM, SAROS, and AUCOMM capabilities.

• Deliver field-expedient communication solutions in challenging or degraded environments.

• Comprehend and comply with the National EMR Policies and Procedures Manual, Uniform Handbook, and Operations Manual.

• Ensure personal readiness to deploy within 6–12 hours of activation, including updated availability in National EMR’s mobile application.

• Foster a culture of safety by identifying hazards, promptly reporting safety issues, and adhering to established safety protocols.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in electronics/telecommunications-related fields, emergency management, Homeland Security, Public Administration, or a related area, or 4 years of verifiable experience is required.

• Candidates must show evidence of completing Incident Command System training, including the following FEMA independent study courses: IS-100.c Incident Command System, IS-200.b ICS for Single Resources, IS-700.b National Incident Management System, IS-800.c National Response Framework.

• An Auxiliary Communication (AUXCOMM) endorsement (Position Task Book completed) and a valid FCC Amateur Radio License (Technician or higher; General preferred) are mandatory.

• A minimum of 4 years of experience working in AUXCOMM for a government agency in a first responder role is necessary.
