This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +42 more states.
• Formulate strategies, workflows, and best practices aimed at fostering audience growth and enhancing discoverability via social media, newsletters, emerging platforms, and search engines.
• Analyze USA TODAY Sports analytics across various platforms, social media, newsletters, and alerts, converting data insights into actionable steps.
• Oversee audience planning for major sporting events, key milestones, and breaking news.
• Establish how journalism should be packaged, distributed, and presented throughout the audience's journey.
• Create, edit, or optimize audience-centric content during significant events and breaking news situations.
• Collaborate cross-divisionally on initiatives to monetize journalism and expand audience reach across social media and distributed platforms.
• Lead a team of content creators and ensure a consistent brand strategy, voice, and execution across various platforms.
• Develop and track reporting and KPI metrics for loyalty, engagement, relevance, and other business objectives.
• Experiment with innovative tactics to support company goals.
• A bachelor's or master's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• A minimum of 5 years of newsroom experience, including management responsibilities.
• Mandatory experience in journalism.
• Preferably, experience in an audience development role within a digitally-oriented media organization, particularly in the sports sector.
• Demonstrated passion and experience in storytelling through social media, search engines, and newsletters.
• Proficiency in platforms such as Reddit, Discord, WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, X, Facebook, Threads, and others.
• A strong desire to assist news organizations in distributing essential journalism while building trusted relationships with readers.
• Proactive leadership capabilities and the ability to independently manage time and prioritize tasks.
• Willingness to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, sometimes on short notice, as news demands.
