AU Tax Accountant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.

📋 Description

• Assess tax returns for individuals, sole traders, companies, trusts, and property investments.

• Review workpapers, financial statements, BAS, IAS, PAYG, and accompanying documents created by junior accountants.

• Detect errors, incomplete information, technical risks, and discrepancies.

• Prepare or complete work as necessary.

• Elevate complex or high-risk issues prior to providing advice or submitting work.

• Deliver constructive review feedback to junior accountants.

• Monitor outstanding tasks and deadlines.

• Collaborate with the founder, clients, and offshore team members.

• Keep track of checklists and workpapers.

• Recognize recurring issues and enhance preparation and review processes.

• Contribute to the enhancement of procedures, checklists, workflows, and quality standards.

• Offer practical feedback and direction to junior accountants to ensure consistent improvement in work quality.


⛳️ Requirements

• Around 2–3 years of pertinent Australian tax-accounting experience.

• Proven experience in preparing and reviewing tax returns and compliance work for individuals, sole traders, companies, trusts, and property investors.

• Strong understanding of Australian tax and compliance processes.

• Practical experience with Xero.

• Exceptional attention to detail.

• Capability to accurately review numbers and documentation.

• Willingness to take ownership and adhere to deadlines.

• Proficient written and verbal English skills.

• Clear communication skills with remote teams and clients.

• Strong organizational abilities.

• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

• Experience with Xero Tax, Xero Practice Manager, FYI, BGL, HandiSoft, MYOB, or similar systems is preferred.

• Familiarity with BAS, IAS, payroll, bookkeeping, capital gains tax, rental properties, negative gearing, depreciation, ASIC agent services, SMSF compliance, or tax-planning tasks is preferred.

• Experience in creating SOPs, checklists, or training materials is preferred.

• Final approval, regulated tax advice, signing, and lodgement authority are subject to the candidate’s qualifications, authority, and applicable Australian regulations.
