Associate – South Korean Industrial & Trade Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Korea.

📋 Description

• Serve as an "intelligence and narrative bridge," linking the dynamics of Korea's domestic climate and energy transition—particularly in the power sector, grid reform, and green industrial policy—with the specific needs of trade, diplomacy, and campaign framing in other countries.

• Establish and nurture reliable relationships with Korean academics, analysts, leaders in the clean-energy sector, corporate representatives (such as those in semiconductors, AI/data centers, and batteries), and pertinent media figures to inform and shape network strategies.

• Keep a detailed, up-to-date overview of key stakeholders, significant relationships, and strategic opportunities associated with Korea's transition (including policy windows like the 12th Power Plan, climate law revisions, grid and pricing reforms, and RE100 industrial complexes), and regularly share this information with relevant country desks.

• Collaborate in the development and editing of impactful Korea-focused content for network and other platforms that illustrate Korea's green transition progress to domestic, regional, and international audiences, emphasizing how Korea's transition direction influences regional trade, investment, and the viability of fossil projects.

• Address ad-hoc internal requests for insights regarding Korea's context, stakeholder background, and narrative guidance promptly, particularly concerning rapid developments in energy security or industrial discussions.

• Act as the main point of contact within the GSCC network for Korea-related industrial insights, stakeholder context, and discussion points (such as RE100, grid modernization, GX industrial opportunities, and regional spillovers).

• Engage actively in GSCC and partner calls, planning sessions, and online discussions, ensuring that insights specific to Korea are incorporated into regional and global strategies, as well as key campaign moments—including collaborative efforts with Japan, Australia, and other Asia desks on narratives about "Korea in Asia / Korea in the world."

⛳️ Requirements

• 6–8 years of experience in areas such as industrial or policy analysis, journalism, research, communications, or campaigning related to South Korea, preferably with a focus on climate, energy, or industrial transformation.

• Profound understanding of Korea's political economy and industrial policy environment, particularly in sectors like power and grid systems, semiconductors and AI/data infrastructure, batteries, heavy industry, and associated value chains.

• Proven ability to interpret Korean-language policy, media, and industrial signals, translating them into clear, actionable insights for non-Korean audiences (including Asia desks, international media, and investor networks).

• Established record of producing high-quality analytical or narrative materials (briefings, reports, media articles, or campaign resources) under tight deadlines, especially regarding climate, energy, or industrial competitiveness topics.

• Existing relationships or a clear strategy to develop them with relevant Korean academics, think tanks, researchers, journalists, or industry leaders.

• Proficiency in Korean and strong command of English; exceptional written and verbal communication skills in both languages.

• A strategic, systems-oriented approach, with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to make informed decisions in ambiguous or fast-paced situations.

• An independent self-starter, comfortable with remote work, managing personal workload, and collaborating across time zones and cultures using online tools.

• A team-oriented individual who can support and advise colleagues from various countries and functions, comfortable operating within a highly networked, partner-driven environment.
