Associate General Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with senior leadership, the sales team, and various cross-functional stakeholders to create, review, and negotiate a comprehensive range of commercial agreements, which include customer contracts, different partnership agreements, and vendor contracts.

• Act as a key member of InterPayments’ compliance team, providing guidance on card network regulations, state and provincial surcharging laws, and federal compliance as they relate to the company’s products, customers, and partners.

• Advise business teams on regulatory risks and assist in developing and maintaining internal compliance policies and frameworks.

• Support matters related to employment, privacy, and data security in conjunction with external legal counsel when necessary.

• Manage general corporate legal tasks and respond to ad hoc requests as they arise.

⛳️ Requirements

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (New York or California preferred).

• At least 5 years of legal experience, with significant time spent at a large law firm or in-house within a fintech company.

• Proven experience in payments, fintech, or financial services regulation.

• Strong skills in commercial contracting, including direct negotiation experience.

• Comfortable functioning as a generalist: in a start-up environment with a small legal team, the ability to address a variety of issues is essential.

• Self-motivated with good judgment and the capability to work independently in a fully remote setting.

• Clear and concise communicator who can simplify legal complexities into actionable advice for non-lawyers.

• Experience utilizing AI tools to enhance productivity and accelerate deliverables.
