This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.
• Develop and prepare construction packages for distribution voltage projects, both overhead and underground, encompassing installation of distribution equipment, feeder and cable replacements, and pole replacements as part of an infrastructure enhancement program.
• Assist with the design of distribution lines within the range of 2.4kV to 34kV.
• Collaborate with Designers and Engineers to create new drawings, modify existing ones, or generate as-built documents.
• Aid in the preparation of proposals, engineering cost estimates, and execution timelines.
• Offer technical support to customers and contribute to regional business development efforts.
• Conduct quality reviews of work produced by others and comply with the QA/QC process.
• Prepare calculations and assist in specifying equipment.
• Assess the loading of various installed equipment components, including transformers and pole structural loading, to ensure a cost-effective, safe, and reliable design that adheres to client specifications.
• Visually identify, inspect, and document equipment and various construction situations in the field, including rights-of-way.
• Apply National Electric Safety Code (NESC) Standards, Client Standards, and Federal, State, or Local Municipal Guidelines, along with other relevant guidelines to complete engineering designs (Pole Replacements, Communication Space Rearrangements, Joint-Use Design) for potential joint-use or make-ready construction.
• Analyze field-collected data (including imagery) and accurately update relevant software packages to ensure successful design implementation.
• Regularly utilize Client proprietary software packages or equipment to fulfill daily responsibilities in the engineering design workflow, which may include facilitating the new attachment permitting process.
• Take accountability for assigned work, ensuring its completion within the project timeline and budget while maintaining regular communication with the management team about the project's status.
• Frequently engage with Client(s) regarding engineering design to identify the most cost-effective solutions for their projects.
• Provide timely and detailed documentation and support to Orbital accounting functions to ensure projects remain on budget and are accurately accounted for.
• Take notes, employ measuring devices to identify, inspect, and record data in an organized manner.
• As needed, work in various weather conditions and in residential, commercial, and industrial environments.
• Primarily work remotely/office-based, although fieldwork may be required throughout the engineering design process.
• Willingness to travel overnight or for extended periods based on project assignments is essential.
• Attendance at client site meetings and regular interaction with the general public, including landowners and operators, is required.
• A Bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited four-year institution, preferably in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience or foundational knowledge of concepts within the electric utility sector, including primary and secondary distribution systems, and utility standards.
• Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.
• Exceptional attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Capability to prioritize tasks across multiple projects and effectively communicate project statuses.
• Proficiency in computer applications, including general Microsoft Office products, and the ability to learn distribution design, GIS, and business enterprise software.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Reasoning skills and the capacity to solve practical issues.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics.
• Basic understanding of electrical distribution assets and/or communication equipment construction is preferred.
• Experience with construction modeling software such as AutoCAD is advantageous.
• Familiarity with design and checking practices for engineering drawings and deliverables.
• Knowledge of Safe Work Practices and PPE applications.
• Must possess reliable transportation and a valid driver's license with insurance.
• Ability to pass a fit-for-duty test.
• Capable of working from both home and office settings, and agreeable to conducting field duties such as equipment inspections and data collection.
