This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Develop and create content across various formats—video, written features, blog posts, case studies, reports, and podcast-style audio—transitioning from concept to final product with minimal guidance.
• Craft and revise engaging, audience-centric copy that varies in tone and depth across different channels while maintaining the integrity of our brand voice.
• Produce, edit, and deliver video content from start to finish, including graphics, captions, and formatting suitable for various platforms.
• Create and edit audio content, encompassing interviews, short-form storytelling, and episodic formats.
• Oversee and manage vendor relationships as necessary.
• Uphold a high standard of creativity in all outputs, setting an example for the team.
• Own and direct content strategy for key functional areas, aligning organizational priorities with content plans that engage audiences over time, rather than just inform.
• Promote a steady flow of innovative ideas, new formats, unique perspectives, and emerging platforms—advocating for experimentation and fostering an environment for the team to explore new concepts.
• Recognize timely opportunities to extend, repurpose, or transform existing content to attract new attention.
• Lead the planning of the content calendar with ideas that are timely, mission-driven, and genuinely appealing to our target audience.
• Utilize performance data to continuously refine content and distribution strategies, advocating for strategic enhancements based on insights gained.
• Anticipate changes in audience behavior, platform dynamics, or organizational priorities, and proactively adjust the content strategy accordingly.
• Supervise content publishing across web, blog, and email, ensuring the calendar runs efficiently and all stakeholders are aligned.
• Collaborate with the Marketing team to create and send email campaigns, involving copywriting, audience segmentation, and platform setup.
• Ensure that all content adheres to standards for brand voice, visual consistency, and accessibility—establishing or enhancing processes that maintain this consistency at scale.
• Work closely with colleagues in MarComms, Philanthropy, Delivery, and Product to highlight stories and simplify complex work into engaging content.
• Conduct interviews with staff, partners, and subject matter experts to gather foundational material for stories and campaigns.
• Manage content projects from beginning to end, including timelines, reviews, and approvals—resolving dependencies and ensuring smooth workflow across teams.
• Act as a strategic advisor to cross-functional stakeholders, aiding them in understanding content trade-offs and making informed decisions.
• Collaborate with other content creators on the team to set quality standards and workflows.
• Participate in annual planning, triannual reviews, OKRs, NCTs, and board reports as necessary.
• Over 8 years of experience in content creation, digital media, journalism, marketing communications, or a related field, showcasing a portfolio that demonstrates versatility across formats and evidence of strategic ownership.
• Operates with a significant degree of independence—transitions from concept to published product with limited direction while establishing the pace and quality standards for the team.
• Strong video production capabilities, including shooting, editing, and post-production; proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Premiere Pro or After Effects, is essential.
• Proven experience in producing or editing podcast or audio content.
• Exceptional writing and editing abilities with the skill to simplify complex ideas without losing nuance, and to adapt voice according to the audience and channel.
• Proficient with CMS platforms, especially WordPress.
• Strategically employs AI content tools to enhance production, improve team workflows, and advocate for new methods—without compromising quality or authenticity.
• A history of audience growth and leveraging performance data to inform strategic decisions, beyond mere reporting.
• Strong project management capabilities, adept at balancing multiple deadlines and stakeholders with assurance; experienced in managing shifting priorities and guiding others in doing the same.
• Collaborates with functional areas to translate organizational priorities into actionable content plans.
• Experience mentoring junior team members and cross-functional peers, establishing quality standards, workflows, or patterns that can be replicated and built upon.
• An interest in emerging AI tools and a dedication to using them ethically and effectively.
• A profound commitment to Code for America's mission of enhancing government services for those who need them most.

• Provision of a laptop.
• A one-time payment of $700 for remote work setup; a $200 stipend in the first paycheck and reimbursement up to $500 in accordance with our equipment policy.
• Monthly reimbursement of $50 for cell phone and/or internet expenses.
• An annual stipend of $500 (per calendar year) for professional development; prorated at the time of hire.
• Up to $500 of professional development funds can be rolled over each year, with a maximum cap of $1000.
• Training and guidance for staff required to use AI in their roles, along with opportunities for employees to gain AI-related skills for career advancement.
• Employees receive a 100% employer match on the first 3% of contributions.
• Employees with over 3 years of service receive an additional 50% match on contributions between 3% and 5%, resulting in a maximum employer contribution of 5%.
• At least one no-cost health insurance option available for full-time employees covering employee-only plans.
• A minimum of 80% coverage for dependent health insurance costs.
• Code for America employees can work remotely throughout the US.
• Employees must maintain their primary residence within the US.
• Full-time employees are expected to work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
• Collaborative working hours: internal meetings are typically scheduled between 10 AM - 3 PM PT, and all Code for America staff are expected to be available during these hours.
• Open personal time off (subject to manager approval), a minimum of 14 paid holidays, and an organization-wide closure from Christmas Day through New Year's Day.
• Paid sick leave; up to 96 hours annually.
• 17 weeks of paid parental and family leave.
• 3 weeks of paid sabbatical after 5 years of service.
