Associate Director – Civil Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Connecticut, +10 more states.

📋 Description

• Comprehend the risks, responsibilities, and liabilities associated with dam operations and ownership.

• Work in conjunction with the Chief Dam Safety Engineer to create and execute a robust ODSP.

• Act as the main contact responsible for daily communications with engineering consultants, construction contractors, the FERC regional offices, and various personnel from Eagle Creek.

• Guide Dam Safety Engineers (DSEs) in the creation and upkeep of Dam Safety Surveillance and Monitoring Plans, Supporting Technical Information Documents, Dam Safety Surveillance and Monitoring Reports, and other necessary technical documentation.

• Engage in and/or designate DSEs to take part in FERC dam safety inspections, Part 12 inspections, PFMAs, and Risk Analysis workshops, while also overseeing the review of all related reports and STIDs for technical accuracy and quality.

• Direct the dam safety surveillance monitoring program for a designated area and collaborate with DSEs to analyze performance monitoring data and develop DSSMRs.

• Spearhead the establishment of protocols and procedures for inspecting, maintaining, and testing flow control equipment.

• Provide assistance and training to Operations staff on safe operational practices to ensure dam and public safety.

• React to incidents at dams by ensuring all necessary measures are taken to avert or lessen loss of life or property due to potential dam failure.

• Aid the Operations Team in identifying and assessing solutions to maintenance issues.

• Collaborate with DSEs, project consultants, the Operations Team, and state and federal regulatory bodies to guarantee that all dam safety engineering commitments are fulfilled punctually.

• Lead DSEs in project execution to ensure timely completion of all dam and civil construction projects.

• Partner with external auditors and the Chief Dam Safety Engineer to perform regular external and internal ODSP reviews.

• Take part in the creation and implementation of company-wide dam safety training programs.

⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.

• Professional Engineer (PE) license/certification.

• At least 10 years of experience in an engineering discipline related to dams.

• A proven innovative problem solver with a history of successful problem-solving skills.

• Demonstrated capability to work independently and effectively.

• Strong organizational abilities and self-motivated to accomplish tasks.

• Knowledge and understanding of FERC and relevant State Dam Safety regulations.

• Fundamental understanding and application of structural, geotechnical, hydrologic, and hydraulic engineering concepts, along with construction management principles.

• Familiarity with dam instrumentation, including various types of piezometers and inclinometers.

• Proven ability to prioritize tasks and manage competing deadlines.

• Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time, depending on location.

• Capability to climb or traverse the slopes of dams, some exceeding 100 feet in height.

• Comfortable entering confined spaces such as dam galleries for inspections.
