Assistant/Associate Professor – Design Studies

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Dissertation Supervision: Act as the committee chair for Doctor of Design students, guiding dissertation research, committee assembly, and the assessment of all doctoral milestones across program lab areas, including Caribbean Design History & Visual Culture, Computational & Algorithmically-Enabled Design, Design for Learning Experiences, and Design for Wellness.

• Graduate Instruction: Deliver courses within the Master of Design and/or Doctor of Design programs, providing rigorous, research-based instruction in online formats.

• Curriculum Compliance: Oversee curricula to ensure continuous alignment with institutional standards and accrediting body requirements; engage in course and curriculum evaluations and audits.

• Student Assessment: Review all student submissions with comprehensive qualitative and quantitative feedback promptly.

• Student Communication: Address all student emails and inquiries within 24 hours; engage in proactive and reactive outreach through email, phone, and video conferencing.

• Faculty Engagement: Participate in program development, institutional research initiatives, and contribute to the wider scholarly community of the institution.

⛳️ Requirements

• Doctoral Credentials: A completed doctoral degree is mandatory.

• For the Assistant Professor level, advanced doctoral candidacy with over 5 years of professional design experience will be taken into account.

• Design Experience: At least 5 years of professional design experience with a robust portfolio in one or more design disciplines.

• Teaching Experience: Significant graduate-level teaching experience (preferably 5+ years) in online formats; proven ability to mentor doctoral students through independent research.

• Accreditor Credential Standards: All candidates must possess recognized academic credentials that fulfill the requirements of our accrediting body; candidates lacking qualifying credentials cannot be considered, regardless of professional experience.

• Research & Scholarship: Active participation in design research and scholarship with a developed or emerging teaching, research, and service agenda (an established record is necessary for Associate Professor level).

• Industry Experience Preferred: Professional practice and practical industry experience in a design field is highly preferred; candidates with demonstrated cross-disciplinary or emerging design research backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
