This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Iowa.
• Collaborate with the Controller to manage daily accounting, banking, treasury operations, financial reporting, budgeting, and financial analysis processes.
• Drive the accounting and financial closing process for quarterly and yearly financial statements.
• Ensure the review of financial statements and disclosures meets Statutory, GAAP, and Tax accounting standards.
• Conduct GAAP financial reporting along with monthly financial management and board/investor reporting.
• Oversee the preparation of audited financial statements and regulatory financial reports.
• Manage federal and state income tax reporting and compliance in collaboration with internal resources and external tax advisors.
• Supervise financial statement analytical reviews for management, the board, and investors.
• Investigate complex accounting issues and compose technical accounting memorandums.
• Enhance and automate processes; uphold accounting policies, procedures, and documentation.
• Cultivate relationships with internal and external auditors as well as the Iowa Insurance Division.
• Aid in external audits and regulatory examinations.
• Work collaboratively across the Company to ensure robust internal controls and execute audit recommendations.
• Assist in the design, implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of the ICFR program.
• Contribute to annual budgeting and forecasting activities.
• Establish and sustain banking relationships while enhancing treasury efficiencies.
• Partner with the Controller to supervise accounting and financial systems.
• Lead efforts to improve workflows, automation, data quality, reporting capabilities, and systems controls.
• Collaborate with Information Technology on technology strategy, product design, and review sessions.
• Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or a related field.
• A minimum of ten years of progressive leadership experience in accounting and/or finance.
• Previous experience in the life insurance sector.
• Proficiency in statutory and GAAP accounting.
• In-depth knowledge of statutory accounting, GAAP accounting, financial planning, corporate taxes, cash management, and federal and state insurance regulations.
• Exceptional understanding of strategic planning and automated financial and reporting systems.
• Advanced analytical skills and problem-solving capabilities.
• Strong comprehension of internal controls.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Proven ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, dynamic, and deadline-oriented environment.
• Strong presentation skills with the ability to convey financial information to executive leadership.
• CPA designation or CPA eligibility is preferred.
• Experience in implementing new accounting systems and process automation initiatives is preferred.
