Assistant Controller

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Enhance the Accounting Function: Take ownership of the month-end closing process, financial reporting, accounting operations, and internal controls while developing scalable processes that facilitate growth from $1bn in revenue.

• Lead Subscription Revenue Accounting: Manage the accounting for a consumer subscription business, ensuring precise revenue recognition, adherence to ASC 606, and collaboration with cross-functional teams on new products and services.

• Drive Systems, Automation & AI: Spearhead the implementation of accounting systems and process transformation projects, utilizing automation and AI to boost efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.

• Own Audit & Compliance: Direct the company's external audit process, enhance controls and documentation, and guarantee compliance with GAAP and other regulatory standards.

• Develop & Lead the Team: Create, mentor, and oversee a high-performing accounting team, including offshore resources, while establishing clear accountability and operational rhythms.

• Partner with Leadership: Work alongside Finance and executive teams on strategic initiatives, business planning, fundraising, and operational decision-making.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with leadership roles in high-growth settings.

• Experience in scaling a company from under $100M in revenue to over $200M.

• Extensive experience in a consumer subscription business with recurring revenue models.

• Proven history of leading accounting systems implementations (ERP, revenue, close, AP automation, or related platforms).

• Experience in identifying and implementing AI and automation solutions to enhance accounting efficiency, productivity, and accuracy.

• Background in leading a company's initial external audit and establishing audit-ready processes and controls.

• Demonstrated success in managing offshore accounting teams and distributed operations.

• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
