This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Reporting to the VP, Controller, the Assistant Controller acts as a crucial support to the Controller, holding extensive responsibility for the organization's accounting operations, financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and small business lending activities.
• In addition to managing daily accounting tasks and reviewing the work of accounting and finance personnel, this role ensures the integrity of the general ledger, leads the preparation and examination of financial statements and regulatory submissions — including the credit union Call Report — and oversees the loan operations of the small business lending program from origination to servicing.
• This role is pivotal in designing, executing, and monitoring internal controls, serves as the main link between the lending operation and the accounting department, and collaborates closely with the Controller on audits, technical accounting, and process enhancements.
• An active CPA license is required. (Certified Public Accountant)
• A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory or review responsibilities.
• At least 5 years of experience in reviewing, leading, or supervising accounting work.
• A strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting.
• Experience in managing month-end close processes and external audits.
• Experience in credit unions, including knowledge of NCUA regulations and member/share accounting.
• Familiarity with preparing the credit union Call Report (NCUA Form 5300).
• Experience in loan operations — including origination, servicing, documentation, and/or loan portfolio accounting.
• Proficiency in NetSuite, particularly in a multi-legal entity environment.
• Experience in communicating with and supporting external auditors.
• Experience with CDFI (Community Development Financial Institution) is preferred.
• Experience in Small Business Administration (SBA) reporting is a bonus but not mandatory.
• Strong Excel skills and a robust financial database and reporting skill set; familiarity with accounting applications is a significant advantage.
