📋 Description

• The Appraisal Section Manager is responsible for overseeing the review, analysis, and evaluation of real estate appraisals and valuations for residential loans conducted by appraisal vendors.

• This role involves assigning appraisal reviews to team members, monitoring workflow to ensure timely completion of tasks, and making necessary adjustments.

• The position requires following up on vendor-prepared valuations and reconciling any differences in opinion or perspective.

• The Appraisal Section Manager must also conduct research and maintain a thorough understanding of residential real estate markets and conditions within their area of responsibility, as well as evaluate appraisal companies and individual appraisers for approval in the Company’s appraisal bidding process.

• This role includes evaluating appraisals of particularly complex or unusual properties, utilizing experience and expertise.

• The manager will perform semi-annual and/or quarterly updates on real estate markets for their region and may be called upon to present findings to local or senior management.

• Participation in Criticized Asset Reviews may be required when appropriate.

• The Appraisal Section Manager assists commercial and residential loan officers and management by explaining valuation and appraisal issues, educating them on commercial real estate topics, and may accompany commercial loan officers to property visits for direct evaluation and risk analysis support.

• The manager may review appraisal assessments made by staff to ensure adherence to standards, making adjustments to methods and procedures as necessary for compliance.

• This role involves reviewing appraisal content, real estate market surveys, assumptions, and other appraisal aspects, applying significant industry knowledge to assess adequacy, appropriateness, and reasonableness.

• The Appraisal Section Manager may provide opinions on lenders' assumptions in write-ups and contribute to credit decisions.

• This position requires determining the methodologies used and the basis for assumptions, benchmarking against industry standards and specific market knowledge; personal inspection of properties may be performed to ascertain final valuations.

• The manager leads the development and management of appraisal and valuation standards for the Company, participating in policy review and revision projects with specific knowledge of commercial real estate.

• The Appraisal Section Manager solicits quotes from vendors for appraisal services based on the Company’s collateral valuation needs and negotiates fees and payment terms for these services.

• It is essential to keep commercial loan officers informed about approved appraisal firms and individuals.

• The manager oversees the appraisal ordering process in their section, ensuring compliance with regulatory and USPAP guidelines while utilizing an approved list of external appraisers appropriately assigned for the product and submarket.

• This role includes reviewing the most complex commercial appraisals, such as industrial, special purpose, multi-family, and large subdivision/tract developments, to ensure compliance with federal regulatory guidelines, Bank policy, and Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice.

• The Appraisal Section Manager manages the appraisal requirements of lenders and acts as a resource for both lenders and senior management.

• This position provides leadership, support, and guidance to the Commercial/Residential Appraisal Section review team within the designated region.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent progressive work experience, in addition to the experience outlined below.

• 7+ years of relevant experience.

• State Certified General Appraiser License and/or MAI designation.

• Expert understanding of commercial real estate valuation methodologies and techniques.

• Comprehensive knowledge of legal and regulatory aspects related to commercial real estate valuation.

• Strong analytical and evaluative skills, with the ability to synthesize multiple disparate data points into a cohesive structure to enhance evaluative accuracy and effectiveness.

• Excellent interpersonal communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to articulate interpretive and subjective decisions.

• Strong leadership abilities, including the capacity to coach and develop team members.

• Ability to manage workflow effectively and adapt to evolving conditions based on business objectives and priorities.

• Strong prioritization and organizational skills, including the capability to establish and adjust priorities based on sound business reasoning.
