This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.
• Develop the component framework surrounding the layout synthesis engine, which includes a well-documented API contract, a callable service, and an evaluation gate.
• Streamline model retraining into a single-command task, complete with built-in benchmarks and clear team results.
• Manage latency and cost budgets associated with learned capabilities.
• Expand core research into functionalities like multi-story plans and real-time editing.
• Collaborate with infrastructure engineers on MLOps and deployment strategies.
• Provide mentorship to researchers and interns regarding engineering best practices.
• Convey progress through weekly status reports, well-defined pull requests, and design documentation.
• Integrate spatial AI research capabilities into Higharc's home-design and construction offerings.
• Enhance the current engine, schema, and evaluation frameworks to improve speed, reproducibility, and extensibility.
• A minimum of 5 years in professional software development, with at least 2 years focused on training and delivering ML models to actual users.
• Comprehensive experience in data preparation, training, evaluation, serving, and user-facing integration for at least one model.
• Proficiency in Python and PyTorch; familiarity with TensorFlow or Keras is acceptable, with a willingness to transition to PyTorch.
• Background in handling geometric or structured data such as floor plans, CAD, BIM, graphs, or 2D/3D geometry.
• Experience in building or maintaining an evaluation harness or benchmark and utilizing it to manage changes.
• Proven experience in packaging a model behind an API, like FastAPI, while managing latency and cost considerations.
• A Master's degree in computer science, machine learning, or a related field, or equivalent delivered work.
• Ability to work remotely with a team during US Eastern hours.
• A background in architecture or construction is advantageous.
• Additional experience with OR-Tools CP-SAT, optimization, generative layout/floor-plan models, Rhino, Grasshopper, Revit, Hugging Face, experiment tracking, AWS, Modal, publications, or open-source contributions is a plus.
