Application Engineer, Crane – Industrial

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Act as the main technical advisor for the sales team during client visits, demonstrations, and troubleshooting sessions.

• Analyze and address quality claims through field sample collection, root cause investigation, and customer-facing reports.

• Perform on-site evaluations of wire ropes, sheaves, drums, and reeving systems on cranes, draglines, shovels, and oil rigs.

• Spearhead innovation initiatives including new rope designs, product testing, and collaboration with our Ropes Technology Centre.

• Manage, implement, and expand Ropes 360 services in NAM (VisionTek, MRT, lubrication, installation, splicing).

• Promote Bridon specifications in OEM equipment designs (Caterpillar, Komatsu, Liebherr, P&H, NOV) and convert competitive rope usage to Bridon at end-user sites.

• Create and present training programs for customers, distributors, and internal teams (both in-class and on-site).

• Write white papers and technical bulletins to establish Bekaert as a leader in the industry.

• Mentor and onboard new technical and sales team members.

• Keep comprehensive visit reports and technical recommendations for all field activities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mining, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline.

• At least 7 years of experience in wire rope applications, heavy equipment maintenance, or technical field service.

• Practical experience with cranes, draglines, rope shovels, drilling rigs, or comparable heavy machinery.

• Familiarity with wire rope inspection standards (OSHA 1926.1413, ISO 4309, ASME B30) and discard criteria.

• Preferred experience with non-destructive testing methods (MRT, VisionTek, ultrasonic).

• Established ability to investigate quality claims and produce root cause analysis reports.

• Strong skills in presentation and training delivery (both classroom and field settings).

• Experience with steel ropes is preferred.

• Proven capability to write technical white papers and content that demonstrates thought leadership.

• Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and project management skills.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
