Analytics Engineering Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa, +2 more countries.

📋 Description

• Develop the technical strategy for the data ecosystem

• Provide mentorship to another Senior Analytics Engineer

• Create, maintain, and scale dependable, well-documented data models

• Manage efficient and cost-effective dbt and Tableau data model architecture

• Establish well-defined semantic layers with validated metrics and standardized business logic

• Utilize best practices in dimensional modeling

• Implement CI/CD, Git, automated testing, data contracts, and playbooks

• Enhance data reliability and promote organizational self-service analytics

• Mentor and develop the analytics engineering team

• Serve as a liaison between Data Engineering, Analysts, Product, and Architecture teams

• Align the technical strategy with key business objectives

• Document work comprehensively for future reference

• Engage in agile rituals and methodologies

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in leading, mentoring, or guiding data teams

• Strong experience in stakeholder management, especially with Product and Architecture leaders

• Over 8 years of practical experience in Analytics Engineering and BI Engineering

• Advanced skills in dbt, SQL, and analytics-oriented data modeling

• Experience in dimensional modeling and ELT/ETL design

• Extensive experience in building and optimizing data models in Tableau

• In-depth knowledge of CI/CD, Git, automated testing, pull request workflows, and contemporary data stack tools

• Capability to translate complex technical data concepts into clear, business-friendly terms

• Fluent in written and spoken English

• Currently residing in Portugal, South Africa, or Kenya

• Experience with Airflow or other workflow orchestration tools

• Background in Data Engineering, cloud data warehouses, or lakehouse architectures

• Familiarity with streaming architectures/event-driven systems like Kafka or Kinesis

• Practical experience in building dedicated metric layers such as dbt Semantic Layer, MetricFlow, or LookML
