This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.
• Act as a technical expert on certification strategies, connecting FAA Title 14 CFR Part 25 regulatory standards with MIL-HDBK-516C military airworthiness criteria.
• Collaborate effectively with government and prime contractor partners to ensure aircraft certification is compliant, safe, and adheres to schedule.
• Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) level expertise in aerodynamic model development and the definition of stability and control characteristics.
• Function as the technical SME for aircraft certification, ensuring adherence to FAA regulations and MIL-HDBK-516C airworthiness standards.
• Create, evaluate, and implement certification plans for MCDA programs.
• Engage with military airworthiness authorities and DER/DAR representatives to facilitate approval processes.
• Identify and address certification discrepancies arising from the interplay of civil and military airworthiness requirements.
• Mentor junior engineers and aid in the development of internal certification processes, tools, and best practices.
• Execute additional duties as assigned.
• Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related technical field.
• Over 15 years of experience in aircraft certification related to aerodynamics, with direct participation in FAA type certification or supplemental type certificate (STC) programs.
• Preferred prior experience with military commercial derivative aircraft programs.
• Capability to pass a Tier 1 (minimum) Investigation for positions involving Department of Defense contracts.
• Existing security clearance is an advantage.
• FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER) authorization in one or more areas.
• Must possess comprehensive knowledge of Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14CFR - particularly Chapter I, Part 25), as it relates to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulatory processes and the STC procedure.
• Experience in program management, strong communication skills, and a proven ability to coordinate certification programs for alterations and modifications are essential.
• Should have experience in developing certification documents such as ICAs, Ground/Flight Test Plans, Compliance Checklists, Project Specific Certification Plans, etc.
• Monthly travel to Dayton, OH will be necessary, typically once per month for 3-4 days at a time.
• All travel expenses are covered, including flights, accommodations, rental cars, and GSA per diem, among others.
