AI Solutions Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Develop and deploy AI agents, APIs, and applications on Affirm's internal platform (Snowpark Container Services / Quicksilver). You are responsible for the entire lifecycle: architecture, containerization, networking, secrets management, CI/CD, monitoring, and troubleshooting issues as they arise.

• Transform ambiguous business requirements from People Operations stakeholders into functional production systems. Integrate with Workday, Notion, and case management tools to ensure AI retrieves accurate answers from governed content rather than speculative model outputs.

• Navigate Affirm's established security and data governance framework to ensure AI systems operate securely with personnel data. Existing RBACs, data classification, and access policies present challenges, but connecting these across systems (Workday, Snowflake, case tools) is where complexity arises. You determine what is permissible, build within those parameters, and guarantee that employee data remains secure.

• Design reliability infrastructure for multi-model LLM services. Implement structured output validation, fallback chains, circuit breakers for external APIs, and quality controls that prevent hallucinations from reaching users.

• Collaborate directly with non-technical stakeholders to define problems, make architectural choices, and provide candid evaluations of AI capabilities. You act as a translator between technical and non-technical perspectives.

• Contribute to the team's shared Python codebase, dbt models, and Snowflake infrastructure as part of a small, agile full-stack team that prioritizes rapid deployment.

• Take ownership of your creations. When issues arise in production, you are responsible for diagnosing and resolving them.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong foundation in software engineering. You have experience building, deploying, and maintaining production applications. You are familiar with version control (Git/GitHub), CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and the essentials of keeping software operational, not merely written.

• Systems thinking and technical architecture expertise. You comprehend how software systems integrate: databases, APIs, authentication, hosting, and deployment pipelines. You are capable of making architectural decisions, assessing trade-offs, and reading code well enough to identify issues. While the team primarily uses Python, a systems-oriented mindset is more crucial than raw coding proficiency.

• A builder’s mindset. You have constructed something from scratch: a system, a tool, or a platform, in an environment lacking detailed specifications. You identified the issue, devised the solution, and successfully delivered it.

• Proficiency in navigating the technical-business interface. You can engage in discussions with non-technical stakeholders, grasp the underlying problem behind the expressed request, and return with a solution that effectively addresses it. You bridge the gap between technical constraints and business language, translating business needs into technical specifications.
