AI Research Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the architecture for the central AI model and adapt it based on empirical evidence.

• Utilize advanced techniques to extract semantics from large and atypical datasets, enhancing downstream performance alongside domain experts.

• Establish success metrics that extend beyond current GeoAI benchmarks.

• Validate concepts via rapid, cost-effective experiments, and expand successful methodologies to petabyte-scale training in collaboration with engineers.

• Partner with the agent team to optimize model invocation, outputs, and overall product effectiveness.

• Set project milestones, develop roadmaps, allocate resources in conjunction with leadership, and proactively identify potential risks.

• Author and disseminate research focused on earth observation foundation models.

• Represent the company’s initiatives at conferences and engage with the wider community.

• Collaborate with the Chief Scientist, engineering team, and agent team to train, test, and deploy models for client use.

⛳️ Requirements

• PhD in computer science, engineering, a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

• Over 2 years of industry experience in developing and delivering AI systems.

• Profound knowledge of the latest AI research advancements.

• Proven history of original concepts or significant contributions showcased through publications and/or projects.

• Experience in transitioning ideas from small-scale exploratory experiments in resource-constrained environments to effective large-scale training executions.

• Proficient in designing models for unconventional data types beyond text.

• Experience in training models with non-language data such as images, time series, or sensor data is advantageous.

• Experience in geospatial or earth observation fields, or a background in earth sciences, is a plus.

• A foundation in mathematics or physics, particularly in relation to modeling physical systems and sensor data, is beneficial.

• Proficient in Python and PyTorch is an added advantage.

• Capability to write efficient and reliable training and inference code is a bonus.

• Familiarity with agentic coding tools is a plus.
