AI Research and Development Engineer – Physical AI

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Netherlands.

📋 Description

• Implement and refine cutting-edge Vision-Language-Action policies for robotic manipulation and control.

• Export and enhance VLA models for edge deployment while maintaining accuracy through export pipelines, graph optimization, and precision calibration to guarantee high-frequency operation on limited hardware.

• Design safety runtimes to regulate action clamping, velocity limits, and workspace boundaries for dependable real-world performance.

• Create and sustain model-agnostic inference APIs that provide abstraction across various robotic platforms and hardware backends.

• Facilitate deployment across multiple edge accelerators and inference runtimes to ensure extensive hardware compatibility.

• Author and publish research papers in prestigious venues to contribute to advancements in vision, physical AI, model optimization, and robotic learning.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience with PyTorch and PyTorch Lightning, including distributed training for large-scale models.

• Practical experience with robotic systems, including industrial robots, EMR (autonomous mobile robots), and humanoid robots.

• Strong understanding of robotics hardware and software ecosystems such as cameras and depth sensors, robot control interfaces, Robotics Operating Systems, and real-world robot deployment and integration.

• In-depth knowledge of Vision-Language-Action (VLA) architectures and imitation learning methods applied to embodied agents and robotic systems.

• Technical proficiency in model export and optimization techniques, including graph compilation, operator fusion, and precision calibration for efficient edge and on-device inference.

• Familiarity with inference runtime backends such as OpenVINO, ONNX Runtime, and ExecuTorch.

• Capability to write clean, modular Python code and manage complex deployment dependencies across diverse training, simulation, and production environments.

• PhD in robotics, machine learning, computer vision, or a related discipline (Nice to Have).
