AI-Native Software Engineering Director

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Serbia.

📋 Description

• Design, implement, and assess AI-Native software development and quality engineering experiments.

• Identify engineering bottlenecks where AI-Native workflows can enhance productivity, quality, speed, developer experience, or release assurance.

• Evaluate emerging tools in AI engineering, including coding agents, AI-enabled development environments, test generation tools, code review assistants, documentation tools, and platforms for developer productivity.

• Develop and institutionalize practices related to AI-Native development, testing, review, documentation, refactoring, debugging, and delivery.

• Define and uphold standards of engineering quality, operational guidelines, usage guardrails, workflow templates, and best practices for AI-assisted software development.

• Establish AI-Native quality engineering practices aimed at enhancing test automation, regression prevention, validation, code review, quality gates, and production readiness.

• Create balanced metrics and measurement frameworks to evaluate engineering productivity, quality, cycle time, developer experience, adoption, and business impact.

• Analyze results from experiments and provide recommendations on whether practices should be adopted, modified, scaled, or discarded.

• Develop playbooks, frameworks, operational models, and enablement materials that transform successful experiments into standardized practices throughout the organization.

• Mentor engineers and engineering leaders to enhance effectiveness through AI-assisted development, agentic workflows, quality engineering, and human-AI collaboration.

• Promote organization-wide adoption of validated AI-Native engineering practices through coaching, enablement, influence, measurement, and continuous feedback loops.

• Establish safe and responsible practices regarding AI-generated code, AI-assisted testing, tool usage, data exposure, IP protection, security, maintainability, and human review.

• Collaborate with engineering, product, QA, security, DevOps, platform, and executive leadership to align AI-Native transformation initiatives with business priorities.

• Continuously enhance software development, QA, automation, CI/CD, DevOps, cloud engineering, observability, security, and delivery processes through AI-Native methodologies.

• Formulate strategic recommendations for the future development of software engineering at Sparkrock.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

• Over 8 years of hands-on experience in software engineering, delivering production software systems.

• Solid hands-on background in software engineering with experience in contemporary software development practices and production-grade systems.

• Practical experience in utilizing AI-assisted development tools, coding assistants, coding agents, AI-enabled IDEs, AI-powered testing, AI-supported code review, or agentic software development workflows in real-world engineering settings.

• Experience in evaluating and implementing AI engineering tools, coding agents, test generation tools, code review assistants, documentation assistants, or developer productivity platforms.

• Proven track record in leading initiatives focused on engineering transformation, engineering excellence, developer productivity, quality engineering, platform engineering, technical enablement, or software development process improvements.

• Experience in designing, executing, measuring, and scaling experiments that enhance engineering productivity, quality, developer experience, or delivery outcomes.

• Successful track record in improving engineering outcomes through process innovation, tooling adoption, productivity initiatives, quality engineering enhancements, or organizational transformation.

• Experience in promoting the adoption of new engineering practices across multiple teams or organizations.

• Proven experience in coaching engineers and engineering leaders through impactful changes in engineering practices, tools, workflows, or operational models.

• Experience in establishing engineering standards, quality benchmarks, operational procedures, usage guidelines, quality frameworks, or operational excellence programs.

• Strong comprehension of modern software engineering, software quality engineering, testing strategies, automation, CI/CD, DevOps, cloud-native development, observability, security, and developer productivity practices.

• Ability to design human-AI workflows that enhance engineering outcomes while maintaining quality, maintainability, security, reliability, and human accountability.

• Strong analytical skills and data-driven decision-making abilities, including the capability to define significant metrics, establish baselines, interpret results, and avoid vanity metrics.

• A systems-thinking approach that enables the optimization of complex human, technical, and organizational systems.

• Exceptional skills in coaching, mentoring, facilitation, and change leadership.

• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication abilities.

• Capacity to influence technical and organizational decisions at all levels within the engineering organization, from individual contributors to executives.

• Ability to distinguish sustainable engineering value from fleeting AI trends.
