AI Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of finance AI workflows from inception to production and continuous enhancement.

• Develop agentic and LLM-based systems that incorporate extraction, retrieval, reasoning, and tool utilization.

• Identify human-in-the-loop intervention points for critical financial decisions.

• Draft design specifications, determine build-versus-buy and model selections, and set metrics for workflow success.

• Engage directly with customers and internal finance stakeholders to gain insights into workflow challenges and success metrics.

• Construct production-grade LLM pipelines featuring prompt and context design, structured outputs, validation, fallbacks, and confidence scoring.

• Create retrieval and RAG components that involve chunking, embeddings, vector searches, and re-ranking.

• Integrate AI services with Jeeves's backend utilizing API contracts, retries, graceful degradation, and individualized customer data isolation.

• Oversee model cost and latency management.

• Develop evaluation datasets and automate evaluations to detect regressions when prompts, models, or data change.

• Instrument AI components with logging, tracing, dashboards, and alerts.

• Maintain a comprehensive audit trail of AI decisions for regulated financial products.

• Establish common AI engineering patterns, tools, and best practices.

• Educate the broader team on effective use of coding agents and AI tools.

• Review AI system designs and disseminate insights gained.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 2 years focused on developing and operating LLM or AI-powered systems in production.

• Proven ability to manage a large system or workflow from start to finish, encompassing scoping, design, launch, and iteration, with minimal supervision.

• Hands-on experience delivering LLM-powered applications using APIs like Anthropic, OpenAI, or comparable, including structured outputs, error management, and evaluation.

• Background in designing agentic or multi-step AI workflows, or RAG systems with vector databases such as pgvector, Pinecone, or Weaviate.

• High proficiency in Python.

• Strong backend knowledge: REST APIs, PostgreSQL or equivalent relational databases, asynchronous patterns, and familiarity with a major cloud provider like AWS, GCP, or Azure.

• Regular engagement with AI coding agents and tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex.

• Experience in observability for AI systems: logging, tracing, dashboards, and quality monitoring.

• Professional fluency in both written and spoken English.

• Preferred: experience in fintech, financial services, or another regulated sector.

• Preferred: experience in automating finance or back-office processes.

• Preferred: technical leadership experience managing a project or a small team of engineers.

• Preferred: experience in startup or scale-up environments building systems from the ground up.

• Preferred: fluency in Spanish or Portuguese.

• Preferred: contributions to open-source projects, technical writing, or presentations on applied AI.
