AI Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Establish the foundational architecture for enterprise agentic AI at Benchling.

• Allocate at least half of your time to writing production code, especially during the initial year of the team.

• Develop solutions for multi-tenant isolation, secrets management, audit logging, payload encryption, and role-based access controls.

• Mentor power users and departmental teams on production best practices.

• Collaborate closely with our Data, Analytics & Systems team on source-of-truth datasets and pipelines.

• Set high standards for code quality, testing and evaluation, documentation, and on-call procedures.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of professional software engineering experience in building production systems, with a solid foundation in systems design.

• Practical experience in developing production systems that incorporate LLMs and/or agentic techniques: orchestration, tool usage, memory and state management, evaluation, and observability.

• Proven ability to optimize workloads across both deterministic and non-deterministic functionalities.

• Production experience with at least two of the following: Python, TypeScript/Node.js, Go; comfortable working across the entire technology stack.

• In-depth knowledge of LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic), agentic frameworks (LangChain, CrewAI), RAG over business content (Confluence, contracts, policies), vector databases (pgvector, Pinecone), and workflow automation tools (n8n, Langflow).

• A history of successfully taking projects from concept to execution.

• Experience working in regulated or security-sensitive environments.

• Ability to exercise technical leadership without relying on positional authority.

• Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
