AI Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Design agent patterns, retrieval systems, and guardrails for intelligent assistants aiding Alight participants.

• Develop an MCP server that provides a skills registry to AI coding agents within the IDE.

• Create reusable LangGraph agent patterns for multi-agent orchestration, memory management, tool-use safety, and guardrails.

• Establish an agent evaluation platform utilizing DeepEval and Ragas, complete with CI/CD quality checkpoints.

• Construct document ingestion and retrieval pipelines, including chunking, embedding, vector search, reranking, and citations.

• Automate CI/CD processes and AWS deployment for AI agents using ECS, Fargate, and Agent Core.

• Develop AI-enabled development containers with integrated tools, validation, and testing capabilities.

• Monitor production workloads with OpenTelemetry and create dashboards for tracking LLM costs and tokens.

• Transform governance controls into pipeline checks with automated evidence gathering.

• Implement semantic caching, rate limiting, and graceful degradation for agent operations.

• Generate reference implementations, SDK and CLI tools, and documentation to assist other engineers.

• Contribute to AI delivery at Alight, which supports health, wealth, wellbeing, navigation, and absence-management services for over 30 million individuals.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficiency in Python (3.10+), the primary language used by the team.

• Familiarity with essential AWS services, such as IAM, ECS/Fargate, and networking.

• Comfort in working within cloud-native environments.

• Software engineering skills encompassing Git/GitHub, code reviews, testing, documentation, and clean coding practices.

• Awareness of security protocols when managing sensitive information, including secrets, permissions, and data protection.

• Expertise in at least one specialization: AI agent development; data and retrieval engineering; quality assurance and evaluation; platform and infrastructure; observability and operations; or developer experience.

• Successful completion of a background check is required upon job offer.

• Authorization to work in the employing country without current or future visa sponsorship.

• Ability to conduct virtual video interviews; Alight promotes a camera-on culture.

• Occasional travel to a physical Alight office may be necessary.
