This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Generate succinct short-form articles as well as more in-depth feature pieces.
• Address business and management subjects pertinent to architecture and engineering firms, such as AI, talent acquisition, mergers and acquisitions, strategy, profitability, leadership, and firm growth.
• Create thought-leadership articles aimed at executives and business leaders within architecture and engineering firms.
• Write with a pronounced and unique perspective instead of merely reporting news or summarizing data.
• Challenge conventional wisdom and scrutinize the status quo when there is a significant business rationale.
• Offer clear, actionable insights for readers.
• Propose original story ideas based on emerging trends, business challenges, and opportunities in architecture and engineering.
• Research assigned subjects and pinpoint relevant questions and angles for AEC business leaders.
• Conduct interviews with subject matter experts and ask knowledgeable follow-up questions.
• Assist in evolving the publication's voice to resonate with both established executives and the upcoming generation of AEC leaders.
• Collaborate with the editorial team on topics, revisions, and the overall content strategy.
• Learn and consistently embody the publication's established brand and editorial philosophy.
• Proven writing experience within the architecture, engineering, and construction industry, preferably with substantial exposure to architecture, engineering, or design firms.
• Strong grasp of the business aspects of managing an architecture or engineering firm.
• Capability to generate original story ideas without solely depending on assigned topics.
• Outstanding thought-leadership, editorial, and storytelling abilities.
• Proficient at crafting concise, impactful copy with a distinct point of view.
• Comfortable producing provocative and sometimes controversial content while maintaining credibility and utility.
• Strong research and interviewing skills, including the ability to ask informed follow-up questions.
• Capability to simplify technical or complex industry developments into accessible business insights for executives.
• Familiarity with current AEC issues and trends, especially the evolving role of AI in architecture and engineering.
• Experience writing for executives, CEOs, C-suite leaders, or other senior business audiences.
• Journalistic experience or training is highly desirable.
• Ability to balance editorial independence and creativity with the established voice and objectives of the publication.
• Approximately 10 hours per week / 45 hours per month initially.
• Long-term engagement with a reputable publication.
