This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Foster and maintain relationships with Indigenous partners, communities, municipal governments, and local stakeholders in designated regions.
• Serve as a primary contact point, providing “one-window access” to Innergex for Indigenous partners and local communities.
• Maintain in-depth knowledge of Indigenous history, rights and title, treaties, traditional protocols, UNDRIP, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, as well as pertinent federal and provincial legislation and policies.
• Collaborate with internal teams to nurture positive relationships and ensure adherence to contractual and legal responsibilities, while promoting shared opportunities for First Nations communities.
• Provide guidance to project teams on strategies for managing and mitigating relationship risks with Indigenous partners to support project success.
• Monitor, coordinate, and report on emerging issues and needs affecting Indigenous partners.
• Track relevant policies, news, and events pertaining to Indigenous Peoples within assigned and relevant regions.
• Organize and facilitate engagement and, when appropriate, consultation processes with Indigenous communities.
• Observe local government activities and evaluate potential impacts of policies and regional developments on projects.
• Collaborate with project teams to devise and implement engagement strategies, issue management plans, and local government relations strategies.
• Assist project teams in meetings with Indigenous partners and stakeholders, including participation, documentation (minutes, summaries), consultation logs, and follow-up actions.
• Aid in the creation and presentation of materials for engagement with both internal and external audiences.
• Represent the organization at industry, community, and Indigenous events.
• Completion of relevant post-secondary education in political science, Indigenous history, Indigenous rights and title, public relations, communications, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• A minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience within the electricity and/or energy sector, specifically working with Indigenous organizations and/or communities.
• Proven experience in leading projects and engaging with external partners.
• Strong understanding of how to cultivate trust-based, lasting relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Capability to navigate complex or challenging conversations, identify common ground, and resolve conflicts while maintaining relationships.
• Strong strategic thinking skills coupled with the ability to manage urgent and changing priorities.
• Ability to identify, contextualize, and analyze risks associated with the role.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively while managing multiple timelines and projects.
• A passion for the positive impact that renewable energy projects can have on both Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.
• Valid BC driver’s license in good standing.
• Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
• IAP2 training is considered an asset.
