This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oregon, +1 more state.
• Oversee a portfolio of high-potential prospects and donors.
• Discover and foster new prospects.
• Interact with prospects and donors through in-person meetings, phone calls, video conferences, digital communications, and written correspondence.
• Request contributions from assigned donors of $25,000 and above.
• Create and execute strategies for prospects, aligning donor interests with Sierra Club programs and campaigns.
• Utilize donor engagement events in the West and Northwest regions.
• Compose and dispatch donor correspondence, written solicitations, and proposals.
• Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the organization's activities, priorities, and needs.
• Align prospective donors’ interests with organizational and campaign requirements.
• Document interactions and relationships in the donor database.
• Drive initiatives to identify, cultivate, upgrade, and solicit donors.
• Establish a pipeline of qualified major donors and high-net-worth individuals capable of making contributions of $25,000 or more.
• Stay informed on environmental issues, including climate change, clean energy, land, water, and wildlife conservation.
• Collaborate with Campaign and Chapter staff to create and implement major gift programs, initiatives, events, and materials.
• Travel nationwide, typically 30–50% of the time.
• Report to the Managing Director, Major Gifts, West.
• Senior-level experience or a comparable combination of experience and education in development and major gift fundraising.
• Strong experience in identifying, qualifying, cultivating, and soliciting six-figure and larger donations for nonprofit organizations or similar environments.
• Capability to build a portfolio of prospects and enhance a revenue pipeline through proactive identification, qualification, and cultivation strategies.
• Comprehensive understanding of fundraising best practices, planned giving, financial and/or estate planning concepts, and campaign planning.
• Proven track record in identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual and institutional donors at major and principal gift levels.
• Ability to motivate high-net-worth individuals and institutional funders to offer substantial financial support.
• In-depth knowledge of philanthropic processes and individual giving behaviors.
• Experience collaborating with organizational leadership, preferably within a nonprofit context.
• Skill in developing strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
• High emotional intelligence and adaptability.
• Capacity to experiment, learn, revise strategies, prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines and fundraising objectives.
• Exceptional writing, editing, and presentation abilities.
• Proficient in communicating complex environmental and social justice issues to diverse audiences.
• Familiarity with fundraising databases and MS Office applications.
• Passion for the Sierra Club’s dedication to environmental and social justice.
• Ability to integrate into regional and national Advancement teams.
• Willingness to travel 30–40% of the time as necessary across the country.
• Valid driver's license, satisfactory driving record, and proof of auto insurance required.
