Adjunct Faculty Instructor – NAV 101: Naval Ethics and Leadership

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Participate in mandatory onboarding and course orientation sessions prior to commencing instruction.

• Create supplementary materials (limited to 10-15%) that incorporate current events and/or pertinent past experiences for approval by the USNCC Dean and/or Associate Dean of the Academics Program; upload all materials onto the USNCC Learning Management System (LMS).

• Instruct assigned undergraduate-level online asynchronous courses in alignment with USNCC policies, syllabi, and instructional standards.

• Utilize the USNCC Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS) to deliver instruction, leveraging the government-provided course shell that includes instructional materials, core lectures, assignments, rubrics, and threaded discussion topics.

• Foster dynamic online discussions that stimulate critical thinking and encourage active participation among students.

• Assess assignments, examinations, discussion posts, and projects based on established grading rubrics.

• Offer comprehensive written feedback that enhances student learning and promotes academic success.

• Track student progress throughout the course and proactively identify students at risk academically.

• Maintain regular communication with students and respond to inquiries within the designated response times.

• Hold weekly virtual office hours, along with additional flexible hours as necessary to aid student success.

• Compile a weekly progress report.

• Submit all grades and required documentation by established deadlines.

• Prepare end-of-course reports summarizing student performance and providing recommendations for course enhancements.

• Engage in faculty meetings and collaborate with Course Leads, Academic Affairs, and Student Services when necessary.

• Stay updated in the assigned discipline through professional development, scholarship, research, or active involvement in professional organizations.

• Ensure all instructional materials and supplementary content align with USNCC academic policies, copyright regulations, and Department of the Navy standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• Authorization to work permanently in the United States without sponsorship.

• Relevant military experience or comparable experience in government roles, and/or engagement with military personnel.

• Experience in teaching at the collegiate level, particularly in an online learning environment using Learning Management Systems (such as Blackboard or similar platforms).

• Appropriate academic qualifications and a record of scholarship/research that aligns with the assigned teaching responsibilities.

• Proven expertise in military ethics, philosophy, leadership, law (post JD degree, such as LLM in military law), U.S. history, and political science.

• Previous experience teaching introductory courses in the law of warfare, international law, military ethics, leadership, organizational behavior, law of the sea, freedom of navigation, and security studies.

• A Master's degree (Doctorate preferred) in a relevant field.

• At least 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline.

• Prior experience teaching at the college level.

• Bachelor's Degree.

• Demonstrated experience teaching in an online format for adult learners.

• Substantial relevant experience in a military or related environment that uniquely qualifies you to teach the specific subject area.
