This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Lead the complete close cycle to completion within the 5-day target, consistently striving to shorten this timeframe.
• Prepare and post a comprehensive set of recurring journal entries — including amortizations, prepaid schedules (such as insurance, advertising, IT, freight), and accruals (for unpaid vendor bills, shipping, transportation fees, payroll, and sales returns & allowances).
• Manage balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany entries, reclassifications, and cash/bank entries across various accounts (Ramp, Stripe, sales tax, and bank transactions).
• Process all payroll-related journal entries efficiently.
• Coordinate cross-functional close inputs (inventory, delayed revenue, loyalty adjustments, and intercompany files) and ensure the critical path remains on track.
• Maintain close documentation, checklists, and the journal-entry support library; uphold SOX-style controls and a clean audit trail.
• Oversee Accounts Payable operations from end to end: bill processing, payment proposals, aging management, and vendor account reconciliation.
• Act as the financial liaison for vendors — fulfilling reporting requests, reconciling statements, and resolving short-pay, allowance, and credit disputes with thorough, data-backed analysis.
• Provide financial documentation for vendor credit-line and partnership discussions in collaboration with merchandising/buying teams and leadership.
• Collaborate with merchandising/buying teams on vendor policy issues (allowances, restocking, returns).
• Utilize AI as a daily tool — and Python where applicable — to eliminate manual accounting tasks, automating journal entry preparation, reconciliations, AP workflows, and vendor reporting.
• Promote an AI-first approach to accounting operations: leverage LLMs (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT) as a daily analytical partner and develop solutions ranging from CustomGPTs to automated workflows.
• Prototype and implement agent-based automations (e.g., n8n) and create lightweight utilities or micro-apps (e.g., with Claude Code) to enhance output and reduce the close cycle.
• Develop and maintain reliable, auditable integrations and queries against NetSuite (ODBC/SuiteAnalytics), bank portals, and other financial systems.
• Operationalize recurring reconciliations and accruals into continuous checks and alerts that identify exceptions before they affect the close.
• Ensure the general ledger is precise, complete, and compliant with GAAP; assist with external audit and tax requests.
• Generate reconciled, GL-level actuals and driver details that support the FP&A team's forecasting, planning, and executive reporting.
• Identify and address process gaps, control weaknesses, and recurring discrepancies at their root cause.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Over 5 years of experience in accounting/finance with direct, hands-on responsibility for a complete month-end close.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge: accruals, prepaids, reclassifications, intercompany, and balance sheet reconciliations under GAAP.
• Practical experience in Accounts Payable, including direct vendor interaction and dispute resolution.
• Daily working familiarity with AI/LLM tools and a proven track record of using them to reduce manual finance tasks.
• Proficient in SQL for data extraction and transformation; advanced Excel skills.
• Solid understanding of GAAP and fundamental accounting principles.
• Hands-on experience with payroll journal entries and payroll systems (e.g., Paylocity).
• Experience with multi-entity/multi-brand accounting.
• Able to explain an automation you have personally developed and implemented — detailing its function, methodology, and the time it saved.
• Highly organized, deadline-oriented, and comfortable managing a process with strict monthly timelines.
• Competitive Benefits (US): Paid time off policies, 401(k) match, medical/dental/vision coverage, a variety of supplemental policies, and employee discounts across our portfolio of brands.
• Competitive Benefits (Canada): Paid time off policies, RRSP match, medical, dental, and vision coverage, a variety of supplemental benefit options, and employee discounts across our portfolio of brands.
