Accounting Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.

📋 Description

• Oversee accounting and financial reporting for the Field Sports and Action Sports divisions.

• Take ownership of month-end close and financial reporting for the designated divisions.

• Review journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, cash transactions, and consolidated results at the division level.

• Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of two Senior Accountants.

• Ensure compliance with GAAP and ASC 606 for revenue recognition related to registrations, fees, tuition, memberships, lodging, and food and beverage.

• Manage deferred revenue and customer deposits collected ahead of each season.

• Examine monthly balance sheet reconciliations and roll-forwards.

• Oversee fixed assets, capital projects, and lease accounting in accordance with ASC 842.

• Manage intercompany transactions, management fees, and reporting for partner-owned or joint-venture entities.

• Supervise daily cash receipts and address reconciliation issues.

• Lead the general-ledger month-end close process and review necessary adjusting entries.

• Prepare and evaluate financial reporting packages along with variance analysis.

• Present financial results and insights to senior finance leadership and operational stakeholders.

• Collaborate with venue, camp, and event operations teams on reconciled reporting.

• Drive division PBC deliverables and coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors.

• Design and uphold internal controls, close checklists, and accounting policies.

• Collaborate with FP&A on budgeting, forecasting, and capital planning initiatives.

• Provide ad hoc analysis and managerial support as needed.

• Lead accounting efforts for acquisition integrations, including the creation of opening balance sheets and purchase accounting.

• Contribute to special projects and finance initiatives.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.

• 6–8 years of progressively responsible accounting experience.

• Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role overseeing accounting staff.

• Proven experience managing month-end close and financial reporting for multi-entity or multi-location businesses.

• Strong knowledge of GAAP, including revenue recognition (ASC 606), lease accounting (ASC 842), and fixed asset accounting.

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for analytical tasks.

• Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational capabilities.

• Ability to manage multiple entities, divisions, priorities, and deadlines effectively.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Adaptability in communication style for diverse audiences.

• Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and lead others.

• Consistently meets deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• CPA designation is preferred.

• Experience in public accounting, ideally in auditing, is preferred.

• Familiarity with multi-entity, private-equity-backed, high-growth, or acquisitive organizations, including purchase accounting and consolidations, is preferred.

• Relevant experience in youth or amateur sports, recreation, camps, ski or resort operations, hospitality, or event and venue businesses is preferred.

• Working knowledge of Sage Intacct, Bill.com, and Concur is an advantage.

• Interest in utilizing AI and emerging technologies to enhance accounting workflows is preferred.

• A passion for youth sports is preferred.
