This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of the month-end closing process for assigned General Ledger (GL) areas, including journal entries, reconciliations, and flux analysis, with a strong emphasis on accuracy, efficiency, and minimizing manual efforts from one close to the next. The key focus areas involve high-complexity, revenue-related workflows spanning various business verticals.
• Cultivate and sustain a comprehensive understanding of Engine's revenue model and business economics to predict the accounting ramifications of product and commercial decisions prior to their impact on the GL.
• Leverage extensive knowledge in revenue recognition to guarantee GAAP compliance in both the accounting of current revenue streams and the establishment of frameworks for new streams upon their launch.
• Engage in cross-functional collaboration with Product, Data Engineering, Finance, and Operations to account for new and evolving business areas—often prior to the creation of a formal playbook. Work directly with large, intricate datasets to support precise and complete accounting records, navigating and manipulating data across systems to facilitate close deliverables and substantiate decisions.
• Develop and uphold automation workflows utilizing AI tools (such as Claude, Gemini, Cowork, or similar) and reporting platforms to eradicate repetitive manual tasks and shorten close timelines.
• Collaborate with the data team to explore root cause issues, assess the impact on the overall population, and implement scalable solutions.
• Clearly communicate accounting findings, data investigations, and process modifications to Finance, Product, and business leadership—translating complex information into actionable insights and fostering data-driven decision-making.
• Prepare timely and well-organized support for financial audits, quarterly close packages, and technical accounting memorandums.
• CPA certification is strongly preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with managerial responsibility over complex closing processes in a fast-paced, high-growth setting.
• Solid technical accounting foundation, particularly in ASC 606 and revenue recognition.
• Proven experience in building or implementing AI/automation tools to decrease manual accounting tasks. This is an essential requirement, not optional.
• Experience handling large, complex datasets to validate accounting results, investigate discrepancies, and support scalable closing processes. Strong judgment in uncertain situations: you act swiftly, articulate your reasoning clearly, and support your decisions with documentation.
• Exceptional collaboration skills with product and data engineers—you possess enough understanding of systems to ask pertinent questions, identify gaps, and ensure accounting requirements are integrated rather than added on.
• A mentality of complete ownership—you ensure tasks are concluded rather than left in others' inboxes.
• Strong business acumen: you grasp the economic principles behind the numbers, not just the mechanics of posting entries.
• Self-motivated: you bring problems to light with suggested solutions, escalate appropriate issues at the right moments, and manage multiple deliverables to completion under tight deadlines.
• Proficiency in NetSuite or equivalent ERP systems.
• Competitive base salary linked to role and experience, along with opportunities for bonuses, commissions, and equity.
