Accounting Director – Nonprofit Client Services

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Serve as the Accounting Director and outsourced CFO-level resource for a portfolio of nonprofit clients.

• Develop trusted partnerships with executive directors, finance committees, boards, and client leadership teams.

• Oversee the monthly closing process, reconciliations, financial reporting, and balance sheet review procedures.

• Review and assess financial statements, budgets, forecasts, cash flow, and significant financial trends.

• Deliver financial results and insights to client leadership in a clear, practical, and mission-driven manner.

• Assist clients in comprehending their financial standing and discovering areas for enhancement.

• Provide guidance on budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, grant reporting, restricted funds, and nonprofit accounting best practices.

• Support audit preparations and act as a knowledgeable intermediary between the client and external auditors.

• Supervise, mentor, and assist staff accountants engaged with multiple client projects.

• Identify opportunities to enhance workflows, reporting accuracy, systems, and overall client service.

• Collaborate with a team of like-minded professionals.

• Offer proactive advice that helps nonprofit organizations bolster operations and further their missions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related discipline.

• CPA designation is preferred.

• 4 to 6 years of experience in accounting or auditing.

• 2 to 5 years of experience in nonprofit auditing or nonprofit accounting.

• Strong knowledge of GAAP financial statements.

• Experience with nonprofit accounting, reconciliations, and balance sheet analysis.

• General ledger experience is required.

• Budgeting and forecasting experience is preferred.
