This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Operating from your home office in Indiana, the Academic Advisor Teacher will provide virtual assistance to students and their parents/learning coaches regarding course selection and scheduling, serving as the primary contact for student-related concerns across various subjects and non-academic matters.
• The Academic Advisor Teacher will develop expertise in course and credit requirements.
• Guide students and families on academic matters, career planning, and graduation processes;
• Stay informed about all high school graduation criteria, including special requirements such as community service, and relay this information to the High School Coordinator and the principal;
• Collaborate with the School Counselor to establish counseling procedures for middle and high school students.
• Assist students and parents with the secondary school course selection process in accordance with specific state credit and graduation criteria, as well as student needs and interests.
• A crucial aspect of this role involves aiding students and parents in creating a Four Year Plan to fulfill graduation requirements;
• Counsel students on matters related to course drops and schedule changes, seeking assistance as needed while ensuring compliance with the school’s course selection and drop policies;
• Evaluate student transcripts and ensure accurate entry of credits into the online transcript system;
• Adhere to procedures to guarantee that Connections Academy transcripts are precise and current;
• Collaborate with administrative assistants to obtain school records from students’ previous schools (when applicable) and forward student records as necessary;
• Implement programs for students and families addressing interpersonal adjustment challenges;
• Coordinate with school teams to identify and assist families in accessing school and community resources;
• Engage in the development of crisis prevention and management strategies for the school and act as a key member of the Student Support Team (SST);
• Lead a team of middle and high school teachers to identify students who may be “at risk” or “in crisis”;
• Serve as the primary contact for these students and their families, maintaining regular communication;
• Oversee and manage the Personal Learning Plan (PLP) for each student;
• Implement initiatives to ensure complete and accurate records for Connections Academy students;
• Assist families throughout the school withdrawal process, including data collection concerning withdrawals;
• Report and refer critical incidents that threaten student well-being as mandated by law, administrative regulations, or ethical standards.
• Remain updated on all state regulations regarding incident reporting and documentation;
• Support teachers when students enroll mid-semester, ensuring that they receive guidance on integrating into their coursework and that previous grades, credits, and evaluations are appropriately addressed;
• Communicate with the Curriculum Team to ensure that curriculum offerings align with state requirements;
• Implement special programs including Advanced Placement support, SAT and ACT preparation, and college entrance preparation;
• Understand the requirements for, and assist the principal in orchestrating, all high school testing, including exit exams, PSAT, SAT, ACT, and AP exams;
• Aid students in researching and comprehending their post-secondary career and educational opportunities;
• Assist with student preparation for college and job applications;
• Educate students and parents regarding college admissions requirements and financial aid;
• Support professional development initiatives for teachers and school staff members;
• Undertake teaching and grading responsibilities as needed, including instructing middle school elective courses;
• Coordinate high school graduation ceremonies;
• Other responsibilities as assigned.
• Indiana teacher certification in a secondary content area or grade level.
• Proficient technology skills, particularly with Microsoft Office products.
