YouTube Thumbnail Optimization Designer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Utilize YouTube Analytics, search-demand indicators (such as Google Trends, YouTube autocomplete, and the Studio Research tab), along with competitive thumbnail analysis to identify legacy videos that are suitable for repackaging, ensuring your efforts are impactful.

• Analyze the trends behind our top-performing evergreen thumbnails and those of successful competitors to guide each redesign.

• Create re-optimized thumbnails that align with our brand standards: high-contrast, attention-grabbing, effective at small sizes, emotionally engaging, and designed to attract clicks.

• Employ AI image-generation tools in conjunction with traditional design software to formulate concepts and produce final, on-brand thumbnails.

• Deliver each redesign with a brief explanation: what the data indicated, the changes made, and the anticipated effect.

• Monitor click-through rates (CTR) before and after each thumbnail change and promptly adjust strategies in response to any underperformance indicated by the data.

• Collaborate with the YouTube Optimization & Publishing Manager regarding backlog priorities, team on timing for swaps, and ensure all changes receive manager review and VP approval before going live.

• After clearing the backlog, assist with ongoing thumbnail creation for the channel.

⛳️ Requirements

• 2–5 years of experience in graphic design or art direction, preferably with a focus on social media or video platform packaging.

• Proficient in hands-on design execution using Photoshop or a comparable tool—this position requires the creation of finished thumbnails, not just providing direction.

• Must have practical experience with AI image-generation tools as part of a real production workflow (e.g., Nano Banana Pro, Midjourney, or similar).

• Ability to conduct independent research: comfortable analyzing search data, reviewing competitor channels, and managing your own task list.

• Proven experience in making and justifying data-driven design choices.

• Familiarity with YouTube Analytics or similar video performance measurement tools.

• Understanding of A/B testing methodologies (experience with YouTube Test & Compare is advantageous).
