Web Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oregon.

📋 Description

• Develop and test web applications, databases, and interfaces.

• Design or configure web layouts, functionality, and navigation for MEI and its associated company websites or portals.

• Ensure compatibility and usability across a range of web browsers and digital devices (Windows/PC, Apple iOS, Android, laptop/notebook, etc.).

• Analyze user metrics to enhance marketability and improve search engine optimization.

• Create and test interfaces for intra-company interactions with an emphasis on aesthetics, design, and usability.

• Design, develop, and maintain MEI’s intranet portal, as well as websites or portals for MEI’s fully owned subsidiaries using content creation tools and digital media.

• Develop databases that support MEI’s web applications and websites.

• Review code to ensure its validity, structure, and compatibility across different browsers, devices, or operating systems.

• Collaborate with management and team members to prioritize needs, resolve conflicts, enhance content, or identify solutions as needed.

• Undertake Help Desk duties involving direct communication (via telephone or email) with end users and assist with troubleshooting.

• Develop and/or implement procedures for continuous website revisions and updates.

• Clearly define website specifications including features, activities, software, functionality, programming languages, as well as operating systems and hardware requirements.

• Conduct code reviews and participate in code releases according to SOP and company-specific standards.

• Assist with server maintenance and setup; may engage in evaluating and recommending server hardware or software requirements.

• Design, implement, and maintain security measures, which may include firewalls or message/content encryption.

• Consistently perform regular and predictable work in a remote environment during scheduled or agreed-upon hours.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required; an associate degree in Computer Science, web design, or a relevant field is preferred.

• At least two (2) years of direct experience in lieu of a degree, or a combination of education and experience will be considered.

• Professional experience with PHP (object-oriented PHP 5/7 is mandatory); JavaScript (ES5 & ES6)/AJAX, HTML & CSS, Regular Expression (RegEx), Responsive Design, REST, SOAP, JSON, and XML.

• Experience in designing and developing MSSQL, MySQL, and other SQL databases; familiar with relational database structures.

• Proficient in programming languages/frameworks such as Laravel Framework, Eloquent ORM, Angular Framework, Typescript, and RxJS Library.

• Familiar with GitHub, Linux, VS Code, and MVC framework.

• Experience with MS 365, SharePoint, MS Azure, and WordPress is advantageous.

• Ability to write test suites using PHPUnit, and familiarity with behavioral testing libraries (such as Behat) is preferred.

• Possess a general digital engineering mindset; be open to asking questions and engaging in thorough problem-solving, willing to pursue solutions beyond the quickest fix.

• Capable of reading and interpreting legacy codebases or code authored by other developers while maintaining a consistent style.

• Familiar with the four basic SQL statements (SELECT/UPDATE/INSERT/DELETE).

• Stay updated with web technologies or programming practices through ongoing education, reviewing industry literature, or engaging in professional groups, workshops, or conferences.

• Excellent debugging and troubleshooting abilities, utilizing tools like Firefox, Chrome Inspector, and capable of troubleshooting Safari.

• Must manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment; adept at working under time or information constraints with excellent time management skills.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills; respond to assistance requests professionally and embody a customer service ethos.

• Ability to simplify technical topics and translate user information for troubleshooting and problem-solving efforts.
